Report

Report:It was a night of last minute squad changes at the Dulwich bowl on Burbage Road.
Visitors Park Langley had been hell Bent on putting out a line-up to topple Dulwich, but James Robbins got stuck after a warm-weather ‘training camp’ in Portugal so was unable to make the trip to the UK let alone over the hill.

However, this didn’t stop a tight match unfolding with Adam coming out of the blocks firing at 5 as him and Steve traded shots to 9-9 before Steve edged ahead to nick it 11-9. Adam came straight back and had Steve searching in the corners like a nosey Parker to tie it up at one-apiece, only for Steve managed to wrestle control of the match easing out a winner 3-1.

Tim and Steve had a titanic battle at first string, with Tim’s experience controlling the rallies and Steve putting Walcott to shame with his speed around the court. Steve saved a game ball in the first to edge it 13-11, Tim returned the favour in the second to see off a couple en route to 12/10. The next two were shared and Tim got off to a flier in the fifth, but Steve was at Baines to prove he wasn’t done and pegged it back to 7-7, 8-8, 9-9 and 10-10 before finally being beaten 12/10. Hopefully, it will prove good preparation for the Kent Open, Tim will be taking a few days off rather like a few of the England hopefuls.

By all accounts Brendan was back to his fluid best, bouncing around the court like the kiwi of old. Ray did his best to put the brakes on in the third, but Brendan was able to get home in straight games. Mark has apparently not been playing much but he should few cobwebs in putting Andy to the sword. With Andy having gone two behind it was time for a Huddle, stone me if Mark didn’t come out even better in the third racing to 9-2 before Andy started to peg things back. Some fantastic rallies and typical Lennox court coverage eventually paid dividends as he took the game to put PL on the board.

Woody had been spied walking to the club with a bright pink umbrella more appropriate in Dawson’s Creek that the Priory League, and perhaps he was working out which Johnson & Johnson beauty product was his next purchase but he allowed Clive to leap to 9-1 in the first before working his was back, sadly not far enough back as Clive closed it out. The next two were closely fought but Woody claimed both before the two played out the game of the night as 5 game balls and 3 match balls were saved before Woody pinched it 19/17 in the fourth.

As always the Olleys delivered quality fish & chips in a quantity that may have deprived the Anerley kebab shop custom as PL headed home, the beer was excellent and served in classic glasses and with no music to drown it out the banter was aCapello.
