Report

Report:A muggy evening at PL Towers saw PL1 take on Bexley 1.

First up, Robbins v Fallows
Richie is the national U15 no.1 and a hot prospect, looking a good couple of years older than his age. He pushed JEJ hard throughout the match and in the end experience and a couple of mistakes at crucial times was the difference. 3-1 to JEJ.

Next door, London jnr v Ford.
Ben really looked to be enjoying himself in this one. It was a typical (for him) virtuoso display of rolling nicks, topspin backhands, corkscrews and so on throughout. Steve was forced to cover an awful lot of court but gave a good account of himself, only losing the first after missing a straightforward drop at game ball. A very entertaining spectacle and 3-0 to Ben.

Next up, Lennox v Breen.
Another keenly contested match with Jack coming out of the blocks fast, only to be reeled in at the end of the game which in truth he was a bit unfortunate to lose. Having got over being miffed at the marker (me) he got back into it to win the 2nd and contested the next two well, losing them both very narrowly. 3-1 to Mark.

Next door, Thompson v Knight.
Martin was probably seeking revenge having climbed off his sick bed only to lose in their last encounter. It wasn't to be though, as a jaded looking Martin couldn't really impose himself on the match. Elliot's progress continues and this time he managed to avoid being threatened with eviction from the club for his drinking habits! 3-0 to Elliot.

So, 2-2 in the match and all to play for for London snr v Donelan.
Another PL player on a revenge mission having been bashed last time out. Uncharacteristically the author got into the game reasonably quickly, losing the 1st narrowly. Upon griping about a couple of decisions he was firmly put in his place by his "no.1 supporter" with a "in your mind you may have been going to get that ball". No sympathy in the London household, much to the amusement of Mr Thompson. Anyway, as the match wore on the author did enough to keep Christian on the back foot, and despite some inspired tactics from Christian at the start of the 4th, eased through to win 3-1 and ensure the match win for PL.

A good win for PL in a very doggedly contested match.

HiHo scores for those interested (judge for yourself the significance):
Steve v Ben: 3-3, 3-5, 3-6
James v Richie: 3-8, 6-5, 5-4, 7-5
Clive v Christian: 4-4, 6-2, 8-0, 4-2
Mark v Jack: 8-7, 4-5, 8-6, 6-4
Martin v Elliot 4-5, 6-8, 1-7
