Report: | While there was big talk on the tv whether Capello will listen to ‘captain in his own simple mind’ John Terry, the word on the Priory wire was that things were about to step up a class with the World no.10 turning out for Park Langley …. 2nds!
The same veil of secrecy that sees Fabio leave his selections to two hours before, covered the PL2 line-up to the last few minutes before Ken stepped through the Dulwich doors. However, when the team was made public it turned out there was no place for Lee Wilson in his 5-man midfield as WR10 Adrian Grant was drafted in to play upfront and cause the Dulwich captain a few problems.
Thereafter the match was tight with three of the rubbers going the distance. First of the 5-setters was Brendan’s hard fought win over Mike. Taking a leaf out of the All Whites book, he dug in when faced with concerted waves of attack before nicking it in injury time.
Meanwhile Steve was clearly on a high after the Bafana Bafana victory over the hapless French and continued his recent good form with a tight straight games win over Andy. Dulwich’s own Andy then came out of the blocks even slower than England on Friday, while Zeb attacked with gusto more inline with the South American than South London. However, in a lesson that Messrs Gerrard & co should take on board, Andy hung in while the going was tough and came strong in the fifth to take the tie.
Clearly keen to try & score points before the screw was turned, Tim got away well and managed to hang on to edge both first & second. The third looked tight but was never in doubt, and Adrian then came through at a canter showing why the young teams are winning and the old Aussies are not!
Last on was Will who was obviously ready for his tasty post-match Olleys fish & chips making sure he got Simon off in 3 games, though with ball bouncing around so much at times it was tougher to control than the Jabulani.
An enjoyable evening for all, especially those that had heard Tim was going to be given the run around and particularly those who enjoyed seeing the Harry Redknap of Priory League on the wrong end of a hard fought 1-4 result!
