Report

Report:Its all about the preparation and whilst the golfers take to the links in preparation at St. Andrews, the Dulwich squash team employed some novel fine tuning in readiness for the top of the table clash with Rodmersham. Tim & Will had gone on a vodka fuelled training camp to Russia, Paul had been sitting in front of the telly eating, Andy had gone the other way with two matches on Monday night & Brendan had managed to avoid going the other way whilst on a stag do in Brighton.

First bit of good news for Will and the ‘Macleod-o-meter’ was the fact that Rodmersham could only manage to muster 4 players so join the every growing four-wall of shame. One up to Dulwich and with such meticulous preparation how could things go wrong. However, the Daly rot started with Paul birdying the first but then finding out of bounds all too frequently as Malcom’s length off the Tee started to pay dividends in the form of 3 games.

Dulwich sneaked ahead on the leader-board as Tim coped with very little sleep and too much clear liquid but not of the H2O variety over the weekend to see off Neil who was constantly on his Casey but couldn’t quite send the ball home when it mattered. Both players traded shots in the third and at 8-8 it could still have gone either way but a couple of tins from Neil and the result was on its way Westwood to Dulwich.

The new training has clearly paid off for Tom who moved around the court like a Tiger. Woods leapt into a two game lead with a mixture of the usual deceptive shots and some fine retrieving that clearly confused Andy. However, the Dulwich man started the road back by edging the third before an accidental clash in the fourth saw him having to retire with a sore knee and thereby setting up a fitting finale.

Brendan started like a man who was still on a stag do, but having leapt to 2-0 ad 6-1 the Redbull wore off and he had a bit of Mcilroy but nearly managed to hit the winning shot in the third before Martin started the long road back saving 6 match balls and taking it to a fifth. At one point Brendan looked like he was going to Louis and Martin managed to get to match ball before Brendan dug deep and took it to a play-off. Another was saved before Brendan finally managed to sneak the win and the overall match to the delight of the home crowd and the dismay of the travelling team from the Kent countryside.

The post-match Olleys was too much for Brendan, spot on for Tom and a little bit of seconds for Neil. Excellent match and as always a fun fixture.
