Report

Report:Having spent some time unsuccessfully trying to locate the supposedly returning JEJ over the two days leading up to the match, the author was delighted to find upon arrival at Langley Towers that Tim was also unavailable, thereby evening things up somewhat. A court sharing scheme was in operation with the 3rd team as court 1 was out of action, making for a potentially long evening.

And so to the match with proceedings kicked off by Pratt v Winnick.
WW seems massively keen these days, and after a slowish start seems to have got into his stride pretty well, producing yet another good win as he wends his way along the comeback trail (the kitchen must be pleased to see him back too after the amount of post match clearing up that was going on - thanks to the LFB for that).

Next door, London snr v Hughes.
Both players struggled from the off to keep the ball away from the breeze block finish of the sidewalls, with quite a bit pinging out sideways. Thankfully (more) court maintenance will sort this out fairly soon, but it made for a scrappy match, albeit with some long rallies. This was evenly contested throughout and could easily have gone either way, with the author pleased to sneak it in the end with Brendan's comment about "getting my dodgy mishit nicks at the wrong end of the game" summarising things well.

Next up were Lennox v Taylor.
Mark had been champing at the bit to get on and away to tend to an ailing family, and although I didn't see any of this, stuck manfully to the task after losing the 1st. I heard Paul's racket clatter loudly against the back wall at one point as the frustration built and he declared his unavailability ever again straight afterwards, so from that I deduce that Mark played well!

Next up McManus v Browsdon.
Two old adversaries (one in particular!) took to the battlefield, but Gordon looked a little out of sorts with his short game on this occasion. There were some beauties in there, but too high a ratio were in the tin to make progress in the games. It was hand in and out on alternate rallies (being 3-1 and 5-2 in hi-ho mode for the first two games). Will did enough at the right times in the games to take it and achieve Dulwich's best result of the night.

Last on Rich v Claudet.
Adam has been in a rich vein of form recently, and so it continued in this one. A tough contest, with no quarter given on either side, but Adam's usual tricky, tight boasts mixed with some good drops and tight lengths proved enough to overcome Andy. This wrapped up an unbelievably good evening for PL against their old bete noir.

To wrap up the evening in the best possible fashion, (almost) the cheapest bar bill in living memory was forthcoming and we were fed, watered and heading out of the door before the 3rd team match had even completed. Who said PAR 11 wasn't the way to go? Oh, that would have been me then. Happy days ...
