Report

Report:A weakened Bexley are struggling for players at the moment, Christian looks to be out for the rest of the season after turning his ankle at Rodmersham a couple of weeks ago and Alex Martin hasn’t managed to step on court all season. On a brighter note, Park Langley finally seem to have their wandering team returning from all four corner of the earth.
On paper this looked to be a tight match.
First up.
Once a week Steeden vs once a week Lennox (yes, we are talking about squash). Considering the lack of court time this was a good quality match with both players keeping up a fast pace. It was only towards the end of the 3rd that Lennox started to tire, this showed in the 4th with a few too many mistakes allowing Steeden to gain an early advantage which he kept to the end. Steeden thought that this was the first time that they had played but Lennox recalled a match they had on the outside courts at Bexley many years ago. Head to head. Steeden Played 2 won 2. ;-)
Chris vs Steve
Didn’t see this match but Chris did well to win the first as Steve has been playing well of late, once Steve got into his stride though he had too much fire power and took the next 3 games.
Elliott “hello sailor” Knight vs Clive.
Straight off the good ship Zante, this was a tough test for Elliott, from what I saw the rallies were long and hard with both retrieving well. The difference in the end was experience with Clive taking the important points.
Jack vs Gordon
Two weeks ago Gordon was the Langley no.1, tonight he was no.4 and next week he could be dropped! How the mighty fall. Similar to next door this was a battle of youth vs experience, unfortunately for Bexley, experience prevailed again. Gordon may have a slight bruise on his leg after some contact in the 4th, I was hoping for a retirement but Gordon recovered to take the match 3-1
Last up
Holiday Ben vs Holiday James
These two never disappoint when on the court and this was a great match with exhibition style squash. I don’t think I have seen James hit the ball so cleanly, in the end Ben had a bit too much in the tank and took it 3-2, 1 week in Portugal obviously takes less out of you than 4 weeks in New York!

Good food and banter with Lennox reminiscing over the old days at the all conquering Biggin Hill (he couldn’t not mention that! Lol), Steve was explaining how his enthusiasm for squash has never been better and how he is keeping fit, he has even stopped smoking and drinking. He mentioned this after tucking into a 3rd slice of cheesecake and sipping on a Magners.

Special mention to Clive and Gordon for turning up early and Clive is in the enviable position next week of having a full squad of players to choose from! Bad luck TW
