Report

Report:The cavalry returned en masse last night at PL. So much so in fact that we turned out an extra 2 players just to accomodate Mr McLeod who it transpired had been so peeved at last week's events that he has retired from Priory squash. So, all those efforts to convince him the PL don't hold a grudge were to no avail and Mighty Mac and The Whirlwind were left to play a friendly after hours.

Nevertheless, TW turned up with a full complement of players and the match got underway fairly promptly.

First up Lennox v Lawton.
Didn't see a huge amount of this one, but Mark looks to have dominated the early part of the encounter, with John's superior fitness not quite being enough to sneak him the 3rd game. Mark clawed his way back from game ball(s) down to run out a comfortable 3-0 winner.

Next door London snr v Simmons.
A fairly routine affair in this one. A bit scrappy from both players with the ball pinging around a bit. The highlight (from everyone except Ian's point of view I suspect) was the marker's sarcastic rejoinder to an appeal for the serve being out at match ball. 3-0 to the author.

Next up Robbins v Head.
This was the match of the night. JEJ lived up to his moniker in full during this match. It was pretty entertaining stuff, but whilst Jolyon kept the ball mainly up and pretty tight, JEJ was finding the tin all too often, despite moving his opponent around the court well. Confidence was high that the PL man could do his usual and turn it round when it mattered, and so it proved - just. A strong performance from Jolyon wasn't quite enough, but this was entertaining fare for all. 3-2 to JEJ.

Next door, London jnr v Payne.
Fresh from his travels, Steve had a relatively untroubled passage through this match. Colin looked as he usually does these days - flashes of former glories, but not too mobile or consistent. Three fairly straightforward games were pouched as Colin peppered the tin, allowing Steve to record a 3-0 win.

Last on (as usual for Simon - firt there, last on!), Culver v Ward.
Having also returned from the other side of the world for his usual welcome summer cameo appearances, WB was presented with a testing encounter to try and blow away the ring rust. Two and a half months of sploshing around in the mangrove swamps of British Honduras seem to have proved the perfect preparation for Priory squash. WB, whilst looking a tad out of touch, nevertheless dealt well with Andy's game. Andy moved well around the court and made it a difficult task, particularly in the first two games. Despite this WB was able to ease through with a 3-0 win.

So, revenge for the thrashing that TW dealt out last week to the 2nds. 60% of the TW side were in no mood to discuss events further as they headed for the hills, and TW sound as though their team selection options are going to be very limited in the winter. Nice to see our supporters team back up to full strength again. Welcome back Stan.

A good win, and looking forward to Rodmersham next week (can't remember saying that too often).
