Report: | Cannons went into the match with a comfy 13pt lead on the Bexley boys.
First up Captain SlackBadger vrs Dave... A shaky start as Dave went 7-0 up immediately from the start, before Matt clawed it back. Once at 7-7, it was all Matt, and he cruised to a 2-0 lead with some annoying body serves and (dare i say) inspired delay shots sending Dave all over the court, in the wrong direction!!! The third was close again with Dave winning 9-6. The fourth was probably the turning point. Badgers fitness was dreadful and he decided to rely again on his superb array of shots....poor deluded fool. Badger found himself at 8-0 down in fifth before realising what was up...(he doesn't have a superb array of shots!!!). Too late and Dave sealed the fantastic comeback, 9-3 final game, despite marker Steeden's best efforts to confuse Dave with incorrect scoring.
Next Rob vrs Mr Beevers Afraid, not viewed by the author, but Rob seemingly has brought his Mojo back with him from Tunbridge Wells. Lately h is fortunes have taken a drastic turn for the better. A 3-0 victory in pretty quick time. According to Rob, had it gone to 4, it would have gone to 5 and a loss but we don't think about things like that off the back of a 3-0 win. A forthcoming Xmas skiing break with the lads will no doubt impove SlimBoyF..'s endurance at both sporting activities and liquid-based ones too.
Joss vs Stu A nervous wobble for Joss this week. Losing the first 9-4. With the 3 following games going each way it was down to a nail biting 5th. Joss again proved that he does have the stamina to go to 5sets winning the final game 9-2.....can no one beat this guy !?!! Perhaps he was spurred on by Steph Brinds support...apparently she used to have a bit of a thing for him back in their junior days...too late now Steph, Joss is a happily married man.
Mark vrs Sam What a game!!! Best game I've seen in priory this season. Very long and grueling rallies, Mark often looking in control but lacking the final shot. Both players taking the ball early and moving well, t he first two games were shared each way before Sam took more control. Sam clinched it in the 4th but I suspect Mark had much more running left in him for a fifth.
Steve vrs Richard With the match at 2-2 it was all down to the no.2s. Going on at 10pm everyone, including Sandy (our Chef), was hoping for a quick match. A few minutes later Steve was 1 up thanks to once again lots of retrieving and a few Kimpton tins. The second was the best and closest game. Both guys rallying well. Steve pipped it 9-8 having been 7-3 down. The running Richard did in the 2nd game looked to have taken its toll at the start of the 3rd. The cross court boasts from the front of the court were still posing Steve some problems but Richard looked tired. 3-0 to Steve to seal the match 17-8 Bexley.
Observations from the gallery.....................
No.1 An excellent match, very long rallies, Sam's long legs will be aching for a few days.
No.2 A lot has been heard about how well Mr Kimpton has been playing, Unfortunately Mrs Kimpton turned up instead. Steady Steve wins again.
No.3 Who ate all the Christmas pie's? I think we know now Mr Badger.
No.4 Rob was playing beautiful squash!, I had to say that as Rob said he would sit on me otherwise!
No.5 Joss the Boss wins again.
Cannons stay above Bexley in the league but only by 5 points. After the match, both teams got their "Mark Lennox voodoo dolls" out, sticking in extra needles in the hope of slowing the Biggin Hill freight train from running away with the league!!!
