Report

Report:A short-handed Rodmersham visited PL last night, so with the dreaded PAR it was looking like (and turned out to be) a short night indeed.

First on London jnr v Parker.
A pretty uneventful match. Steve always had his nose in front. Malc hit some decent lengths particularly on the forehand but got caught out on many occasions with the short ball. A case of the biter bit really. A good 3-0 start for PL.

Next up on the same court London snr v Appleby.
Least said about this the better. After a good knock-up (with another opponent) and a reasonable 1st game, the wheels fell off the author's game in spectacular fashion. The usual Appleby brand of "looks like a cross court, goes straight" shots demonstrated that the author had clearly left the reading glasses at home. Truly dire!

Next door Lennox v Evans.
The match of the night by a considerable margin, although I didn't see too much of it. Two very tight games saw James take a 2-0 lead, but at this point the "serious training" Mark has been undertaking kicked in. The next two duly went Mark's way and it was all set up for the decider. The tactic of going for everything that had worked a treat in the 4th was attempted again, but sadly for Mark and PL, with the wrong result as a flurry of tins saw James take the 5th comfortably.

Last on a truncated night, Robbins v Woods.
This one looked like a light hearted training game really. Both players demonstrated an impressive array of racket skills, but Tom looked a bit like he didn't really believe he could win and JEJ (once again living fully up to the name) looked like he didn't really believe he could lose - and so it proved, in 5 games.

A win's a win but this felt like an extension to a very stuttering start to the season. All done and dusted by 9.40pm despite two 3-2s. At the risk of sounding like a scratched record, PAR makes some of these matches a waste of an evening. Vote it out at the earliest opportunity - please!
