Report

Report:Well it was hardly the World Series Finals, but it was still old adversaries as Dulwich entertained Rodmersham in the traditional opener after the Christmas celebrations.

Sadly Rodmersham were unable to put out their full complement and a ‘clerical error’ saw them further depleted on the night, but it was still a fine battle with both sides getting what they wanted out of the evening. Dulwich almost maximum points, and the Rodmersham lads a few beers and some fine fish and chips from Olleys!

First up, Will took on his new nemesis (and it won’t get any easier) in the form of James. Will has always been a fan of Lincou, and not just his fine calves, so started slowly as is the Frenchman’s way allowing James to head to 10/7. However, showing no sign of any nerves at being out shone by someone just over half his age, Will pegged him back to Nick the first. Thereafter the match swung both ways, James levelling, Will again gaining the ascendancy, before James levelled. The fifth was a tight affair and although James then opened up a handsome lead Will was not done and battled hard before going down in 5. It was a great battle, and for once there was no sign of the Will strop as he was truly spent.

MeanWael on the other court, Peter was looking in fine form. Maybe that was because Tom was looking more Shaba Ranks, than Amr Shabana but the Dulwich man gracefully eased home in straight games. Tim and Neil played out a crisp encounter, with some well constructed rallies from both players. Tim edged the first, but Neil bounced back to even things up. However, Tim’s use of in height relatively cold conditions at the Burbage Road venue had Neil at full stretch and his challenge Peter’d out at the death.

A clear typo had seen Rodmersham start out in the wrong order, so Martin & Andy had a pre-second half warmer that the latter took in three. With a Walk(ov)er at 5, it ended up 4-1 to the home-side to keep Bexley I honest if not quite looking over their shoulders.

No sign of Ramy in SE24, but nonetheless it was another fun encounter with the boys from the out in the sticks. Good squash, food & chat, rock on Priory.
