Here's a bit more for those interested ...

A chance for revenge for PL1 in the local derby v PL2. Having got royally duffed up in the first half when forced to field several reserves against the might of Adrian & co, this time the playing field was somewhat levelled. Despite a late injury to ML (staggering over on cobbles while drunk on a stag weekend - I made the drunk bit up but probably quite likely in his case), a welcome return for a returning WW and a bit of arm twisting on vice captain Martin to come down late on after first fending off hordes of parents saw PL1 with a good line-up.

First up Sharpes v London jnr.
The crowds were all lined up for this one, and it didn't disappoint. Two fast and furious games resulted in honours being shared, but Steve seemed to be the one having to expend the most effort. It was high quality squash from both players but the longer the match wore on, the more running Steve was having to do and that really was the difference. Charles' economy of movement gave him the required edge and he duly ran out a 3-1 winner.

Next door Young v Pratt.
Having been brow-beaten by the PL1 management to cut out the mistakes, hit it up and down and NOT under any circumstances go for any shots, it seems WW took the message on board. Despite a brief boredom interlude from 7-2 up in the 2nd, Steve did enough to take the match and hopefully set the scene for more sensible performances when the fitness levels return to normal. A good win.

Next on Bennett v Robbins.
Didn't see any of this due to being on the next court but hopalong JEJ managed to do his usual and produce a win. Successful management of his ailments has become a speciality in the last couple of seasons.

Next door, Grey v London snr.
On the back of two defeats to Simon in the their last two matches, the author was right up for this match. Having had the pre-match lecture from the missus about hitting it straight and not lobbing cross court all the time, the author promptly spent the entire match lobbing it cross court and not hitting it straight - good advice but old habits die hard. Nevertheless it felt a good match to play in, and the author did just enough at the end of each game to close them out. All games very tight, but 3-0 to the author.

Finally, Wilson v Thompson.
First to arrive v last to arrive. Only saw the latter bit of this one. Martin did his usual and got off to a good start and went 2-0 up before switching off. So far so normal. The PL1 coaching staff duly relayed a few pearls of wisdom about the required tactics and Martin stepped up the pace in the 4th. Lee put in his usual shift in terms of effort, and played some tidy backhand drops, but the pace and tightness of Martin's drives and boasts was enough to see him home.

So, a good result for PL1 and bragging rights shared for the season. Usual banter in the bar with Zeb regaling a perplexed audience about his boxing exploits and those of his cage fighting mates - the joys of yoof!
