Report

Report:It’s definitely an uneasy relationship, having been ambushed at the aisle once by Sam the message that Bromley CC were their best man down was treated with suspicion. However, having got a pre-nup in the form of a text outlining who they would be bringing along the stage was set.

First up was Tim against Lewys. Always an entertaining encounter the latter started brightly but got pegged back in the first, the second seemed to be going the same way as Tim recovered from 4/10 but this time found the tin allow his opponent to draw level. Spurred on Lewys opened up a lead and played the shot of the night as he recovering from the front of the court, he spun away and hit a winner from the middle of his Prince racket, sadly missing the moment as he was facing the backwall. At 2-1 up a shock looked on the cards, but Tim upped the pace and took the fourth and fifth, not quite at a canter more of a gentle trot.

Paul and Sam had the potential for an explosive encounter, but after Paul had edged the first Sam gradually took control, sneaking the second and never really losing control on his way to a four game win. Displaying the demeanour more of a Page Boy than a bad boy, Paul came upstairs and calmly put his racket down leaving the crowd confused.

William started ok, but then seemed to lose focus and John smashed & grabbed his way back into things. The game showed little pattern, but it was proving an effective tactic for the Bromley player. Having battled back from 0-1 and 1-2 he looked good for the win leading 9-8 and then 10-9 in the fifth but at match ball hit a backhand into the Middleton and the chance was lost and a few points later so was the match.

Andy made short work of an injury plagued Matt, and so it was off to Olleys to pick up the famous fish and chips, sadly owner Harry wasn’t there but that didn’t affect the quality and as always it was great not have to wash up!!
