Report: | Not too much to report for PL1's vist to T.Wells last night. The author spent most of the other matches on court as can be seen from the scoreline, but what I did see is as follows:
Powell v Pratt.
Johnny looked as though he'd rather be anywhere else than on a squash court in this one. WW did what he had to do, played pretty well and mixed in a few trademark between the legs shots and rocket propelled skid boasts. This was all done and dusted pretty quickly and a comfortable win for WW to kick off proceedings.
Next door Bucknor v Thompson.
These two usually have a tight game, and Paul looked to just have the upper hand in the 1st. Didn't see anything much beyond that but Martin obviously got it all back together and duly took the next 3 games to help steer the good ship Langley into calmer waters.
Next up Flint v London snr.
A marathon (in PAR terms anyway). The author off to a good start taking the first two games as Peter made a few mistakes and suffered a bit of ring rust. Favour returned in the next two as the author made too many mistakes and lost the length and width a bit. Having reached 7-9 in the 4th the author bizarrely thought he'd hit the ball out and turned round to walk off as Peter returned a simple ball. In fact it was in by a few feet (note to self - get glasses checked). A quick check of the racket at the end of game confirmed that the odd vibrations had indeed been caused by something - a collapsed frame. So with replacement in hand and fortified by the sound tactical advice of no.1 son, a 6-1 and then 8-4 lead were built up by the author. From here on in though, plans went a bit awry as Peter dug in, saved a couple of match balls and duly won 12-10.
Head v Robbins.
Didn't see a single shot of this one, but JEJ confounded the scriptwriters this week to record a comfortable 3-0 victory and confirm the team win.
Last on Payne v London jnr.
Colin looked about as interested as normal (not at all), and despite Steve's efforts to lull him into a game by messing about in the the 3rd, he was having none of it. This was done and dusted in very short order, and a disgruntled Steve was left to spar with the old man for a few games to try and get a bit of a sweat on.
So, a fine victory for the PL boys, and the mid table position (and above PL2 thankfully - never hear the last of it otherwise) assured. One more to go ... |
