Report: | No gueses what courts we were on but one of them is as far,far away as George Lucas's star wars galaxies !
The Bromley boys turned up mob handed with what looked like their strongest team yet. Keith and Nick would struggle to get in and that,s saying something. However, not daunted by the opposition your regular stock & trade Park Langley boys got stuck in.
Sweaty Sock v Andy
Only saw the last game which Andy ran out a comfortable winner but Sweaty must have played well to take it to five. Andy is a very strong number two and if sweaty only played more than a Tuesday night he would knocking off most people he played.
Cyborg v Rob
After inserting the correct programme disc into Cyborg last week (play tight and retrieve everything) we decided with the same for this week. Cyborg duly did as programmed and ran out a comfortable 3/0 winner. I did mention last week about trying a version which allows Cyborg to show some sort of human emotion. We are beta testing this version tonight when I play him !
Lock, Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels v Ted
I didn't see any of this one but I'm told Ted hit 27 rubbish frame shots which all went for fluky winners while LS2SB hit 7 top notch rolling nicks that Peter Nicol would have been proud off. Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes !
Debt Collector v Shaun
A very 'difficult' game for all concerned including Captain Carrot Top on marking duties.
Two very different styles of player with two very different opinions on lets/strokes both of which did not match the opinion of the Marker.
That said, both players worked hard and although much difference of opinions, it never got stroppy or personel. Shaun started very strong with effective low hard drives mixed with floating cross court lobs. A combination which DC found bloody hard to deal with. The match turned in the 3rd when Shaun started making more mistakes and DC started making less. DC finally running out 3/2 winner. Not one for the purist but it would be boring if they all were.
Captain Carrot Top v Ian
Really good to see Ian back on court after a long time out with a serious back problem.
That said, Ian in at Number five was going to be a tall order for CCT to overcome if the result was going to go P/L's way.
CCT started really strongly playing an almost perfect first game. Ian got in his stride in the 2nd hitting his customary low back hand drives into the nick. A quick word from DC to keep the ball away from Ians 'killing zone' was taken on board and CCT took full control winning the 3rd 9/1. The fourth was nip and tuck with both players tiring and making several mistakes. CCT arrived at match ball and had a simple drop to take the match which he buried it in the tin. The P/L boys visibly sank fearing another close loss to Bromley. This was not helped when Ian went 9/8 up only to then serve about a foot below the serve line. CCT seized the chance and played to great rllies to win the match.
A great effort from CCT. Ian Dissappointed with his performance. Too harsh on himself in my opinion. Given a month he will be a very tough nut to crack and at 5 he will not lose another game.
So a very gutsy performance from the P/L boys but only a small blip for the Bromley lads who will go up as deserved winners of the division me thinks. |
