Report: | DC camped out overnight to make sure the 3rds got the decent courts. fortunately the gay bunch in the first team wern't around so no problems there.
Zimbabwien Warthog v Ian
Didn't see a single shot from this one but am Told Warthog did his usual and went off strongly only to take his foot off the gas at 2/0 up. Big mistake against Ian. This battle hardened old bugger will gladly take advantage from any scraps thrown his way which he duly did coming back strongly to take the next two. Warthog must have curled up his tail and sharpened his buck teeth for the 5th as he wrapped things up 9/5 with Ian coming off court a tad red.
Grim Reaper v Matt
GR started at his usual steady pace trading points up to 9/9 before sticking a boast in the tin. This was the signal for G/R to get his bum in gear and from that point never really looked like he would lose. Good game to watch with both players hitting some tight boasts but ultimatly GR to tricky for Matt on this occasion. Don't worry Matt, most people GR has played this year have had the same problem!
Debt Collector v Paul
DC expecting a tough one here as Paul has always had the upper hand on previous encounters. Nip and tuck for the first couple of points before DC got his drops working really well (first time in weeks !) Second game was tough and DC getting the impressionn Paul was starting to blow and so extended the rallys to good effect. 2/0 up and DC obviously feeling confident as he went back on court with his towel rather than his racket. Looking and feeling bloody stupid DC marched back off court toweled himself down with his racket and battle resumed. (A tragically senior moment !) Paul threw everything into this one going 8/6 up but a very long, hard rally to get DC back to 8/8 seemed to take Pauls legs away and DC closed out proceedings 10/8.
Captain Carrot Top v Cath.
The scoreline suggests a total drubbing by CCT but squash is a funny old game. Just a small advantage can produce a scoreline which dosn't reflect the match. Lots of good rallies with plenty off hand outs to Cath but she simply could not get any points on the board. (wonder how that would have played out with the poxy Par scoring scenario !) CCT simply made the most of every opportunity and retrieved very well. A good 3 zip win.
Sweaty Sock v Lee
Big contrast in styles (I always say that in Sweaty reports, I guess Sweatys style is unique)
Lee as always moving around the court and retrieving with ease but Sweaty kept mixing things up and never allowing Lee to get in any sort of rythm. The feature of this game was the height Sweaty got on his lobs. It got to a point where Lee was sitting down having a cup of tea waiting for the ball to come down. When it did Lee stuck it straight in the tin. Bit like waiting for a bus, you lose the will to live in the end.
The end result was a very impressive 3 zip win for Sweaty and I struggle to remember him playing better than this.
So a very impressive 20 points in the bag for the ugly bunch and Beckenham resigned to div 3. I for one hope they stay with us in div 2. Always a good evening with these guys and gals and there hospitality and grub is the best in the league for there home matches. |
