Report: | Dulwich Vs Bromley CC
Bromley CC fall to their heaviest defeat of the season at the hands of in form DulwichSki.
Bromley CC made the trip across South London to Dulwich, not looking forward to the evenings encounter.
A depleted, tired and unfit squad was further decimated with the news that Dutch Prodigy had pulled a Muscle at a seafood disco the previous night. Big Andy gallantly stepped up to replace Dutch Prodigy, despite being overweight and unfit from his 3 week skiing exploit in the mountains somewhere.
Further excuses were made before the match started, from King Lewy, Captain and Dad. They had all spent the weekend Drinking heavily during the Scottish Doubles Championships in Edinburgh, and had had only 10 hours sleep. (Dad is over 55 Squash Doubles Champion by the way)
First on was Student Vs A Moore at 4.
The editor didn’t see the game.
The Student won a closely fought first game 10 – 8, but A Moore, stepped it up and won the next 3 games comprehensively.
Final thoughts. ‘COULD DO BETTER’
Captain Vs Duncan at 2.
The first game was a close affair up to about 4 – 4, but then Duncan ran away with the first and the 2nd.
Captain woke up in the third and won it 9 – 2. Duncan was clearly tiring, and tried all the tricks in the book to fight his way back into the game. At one stage, he took a Drogba like dive to get a let, he even had his teammate and marker Steve dropping his pen on court at critical points in the rally.
The 4th game was a tense affair, both players were clearly tiring on the freezing court, (although I don’t know what Duncans’ excuse was). The game stayed at 7 – 7 for a long time, but Duncans’ superior experience guided him past the winning post 9 – 7 and 3 – 1.
Captain performed much better in this encounter than his previous match with Duncan, but it was his 7th defeat on the trot. I don’t know how he keeps his motivation going.
Final thoughts. ‘CAN ONLY IMPROVE’
King Lewy Vs Tim Garner at 1
Editor missed this game.
Unfortunately I missed this game. By all accounts this was an entertaining high quality game. Tim had too much for King Lewy though and ran out a comfortable 3 – 0 winner.
Final thoughts. ‘COULD DO MUCH BETTER’
Dad Vs Steve at 3
Again Dad was sacrificed at 3, in the hope of winning games further down the order. Steve was comfortable in the 1st two games. Dad changed his tactics in the 3rd and was getting the better of Steve, but Steve held on to win 3 – 0.
Final thoughts. ‘OVER 55 SCOTTISH DOUBLES CHAMPION – NUFF SAID’
Big Andy Vs Mark at 5
Editor missed this game.
Big Andy was sporting a large beer belly that had appeared after his 3-week skiing trip. He had lost some of his fitness and deft touch play, and struggled in the first losing 9 – 0.
He put up some brief resistance in the next two games against a player he had previously beaten. However Mark won 9 – 4, 9 – 5.
Final thoughts. ‘COULD DO MUCH MUCH BETTER’
DulwichSki have been bankrolled by a Russian Oilgarch, and now have former Pro Tim Garner playing for them. The financial advantage DulwichSki now boast over the other teams will surely see them move up the table.
As for Bromley CC, the Cornwallis cup provides their only chance of silverware this season.
