Report: | It would be nice (for Bromley) to believe that the team is set to resume where it left off in Division 5, but this match was a reminder that there are tough times ahead. First blood to Poultwood as Peter, despite evidently tiring after a tough second game, quickly disposed of Tim with an endless supply of crisp drop shots that cut the rallies short. By contrast, on the other court Ron assumed dominance over Ben with long, controlled rallies. But as Ben gained in consistency and accuracy, especially with tight drop shots, Ron began to tire and lose his touch, despite a late resurgence. 2-0 to Poultwood.
Paul dominated David from the start but eased off in the 3rd game, allowing David to gain in confidence and win it with some varied boasts and drops. However, Paul regained his accuracy winning the 4th with relative ease.
Brian and Ashley had a cheery match, full of banter, but Ashley soon realising that Brian had that extra bit of power and speed around the court.
At 2-2 Mark and Alan provided the cliff-hanger, two players evenly matched but with very different styles. Alan chased everything but could also put away loose serves and hit the back corners. Mark tended to dominate the centre of the court rather more and so won percentage points despite some odd choices of shot and some great retrievals from Alan. A series of brave and accurate drop shots and some varied serving gave Mark the lead in the 5th and Alan couldn't recover in time.
A great match to start to the season (I hope Poultwood agree!) and by the way folks it was a chicken pasta: I found the piece of chicken. |
