Report: | Bromley knew they were in for a tough evening against an unbeaten Fitness First, especially as most of the top-end players were unavailable this week, and Fitness didn't disappoint. Syd kicked off the evening with a dazzling display of court-craft and deft anticipation, using his main weapons - forehand drive and boast - to best advantage against a rather leaden-footed Peter. Tim, whose match I missed, obviously played a valiant first game but, from the sheet, Darren got into his stride from the second game and didn't look back. Undoubtedly the most entertaining matches of the evening (apart from Syd's) were John and Terry vs the Ford brothers. Early in both matches Brian and Kevin seemed to be getting their noses in front but John, unbeaten so far, was not disposed to let Brian run down his best shots. Terry hung on more precariously and was lucky that Kevin's accuracy took a slight dip in the fifth. Finally, Keith, who stood in for Tom at the last minute, tested George in parts of each of the three games but George seemed to be able to hit the ball anywhere from anywhere and to keep a little in reserve.
Sadly, it may be the last we see of FF2 for a while as they move onwards and upwards in the league. Good for them! |
