Report: | After getting stuffed 4-1 by Fitness First on the away leg I was hoping for a more respectable result this time around, but as Fitness were still unbeaten in the league this season, I was expecting the worse.
Having previously lost his last two matches (one to a women and the other to a kid still wearing nappies), I was thinking of resting Paul, but as he beat Sid 3-0 last time I decided to stick with him. When Paul lost the first game I could have kicked myself for being so stupid. However, after a few choice words from yours truly and Chairman McMeckan, Paul improved his game and managed to win the match 3-1 although it was never pretty viewing (both the squash and the players).
Steve started poorly against Andy and was soon 6-0 down in the first before getting his first points. At 1-0 down I suspect Chairman McMeckan had a word as in the second game Steve put everything on Andy’s backhand and won 9/3. Don’t know what happened in the third as Andy won this one, but in the fourth Steve got into a comfortable lead only to lose it, and thereby the match, due to a series of errors by attempting winning shots from the back of the court.
I was hoping for a return match with John as he beat me in the fifth game the first time we meet, but I had the pleasure (yes, that’s right, I said pleasure) of playing Carlos instead. Although we haven’t played each other for several years, when we did play regularly there was always a clash which usually resulted in Carlos leaving the court as defeat look imminent. Although the result was the same as in previous clashes, 3-0 to me, there were no histrionics this time around. Seems like age has mellowed Carlos as well turning his Mexican goatee grey.
Didn’t see any of Dan’s match as I was having so much pleasure with Carlos, but Chairman McMeckan informed me that he needed to have a word with Dan during the match and as a result Dan won 3-2 after being 1-2 down.
Nick arrived with the usual excuses plus an additional one to do with his shoulder. Although Nick went into a 4-0 lead in the first game against George, it was all down hill after that as Nick was suffering with his shoulder, calf, life, etc, etc. 3-0 to George.
So first defeat of the season to Fitness as BCC won 3-2. Chairman McMeckan’s "Words of Wisdom" record was 2-1 (for some reason he didn’t fill the need to speak to Nick or myself but I'm sure he was thinking about a few choice words).
