Report: | This fixture was a rerun of last week's Cornwallis Cup game (with the same result).
First up were Steve Pratt and Dave Leach. Steve continued his return to peak form, using his amazing speed to dominate the match despite Dave's best efforts.
Next came Steve London and Sam Stabler. Steve somehow managed to scrape the first game after a comeback from several game balls down, but contributed to his own downfall in the next 2 games by dominating many rallies only to tin the final ball. Sam on the other hand was more consistent and produced some fine quality winners and retrievals. The final game was very tight. Steve fell behind again, but decided to turn down the volume and attack, cutting out the mistakes. Both players gave it everything, and there were some amazing rallies. Having come from way down to have game ball at 8-8, the mistake duly came from Steve, and Sam finished off with a good winner.
Adam Rich and Peter Willmor's match was pretty much a carbon copy of last week's game. Adam started well, but was gradually edged out of his stride by Peter's canny use of all four corners.
Clive London and Richard Kimpton then proceeded to have a battle royal (again). Clive performed a Houdini act in the first game, before proceeding to pepper every inch of the tin and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Unlike Steve, Clive decided NOT to turn down the volume, but at least managed to channel his frustration into his squash, stepping the pace up to win the 4th and 5th games.
The last match to start was Andy Bonner and Darren Beevers. Darren played some very controlled squash and despite the closeness of the first two games, took a 2-0 lead. Andy however, wasn't about to lie down and play dead, and staged a good comeback in the 3rd and 4th. Sadly the effort took its toll, and Darren ran out a comfortable winner in the 5th.
So it's back to the drawing board for the Parklangley team. |
