Report

Report:The start of the summer campaign is always interesting as it’s the first chance to see what the fifa-esque agm has come up with at the annual gathering at hq. Sepp wouldn’t enjoy the democracy of the agm but even he would have been proud of orchestrating a 180 degree reversal heading back to HiHo 9, as well sticking solidly to the 5-man concept that can leave the bench looking decidedly empty. Sadly the latter rule fell at the first hurdle as, despite a summer recruitment push, a big effort this week to rally the troops from the captain and even the promise of Olleys fish and chips Tunbridge Wells could only muster the 3-players.

Undaunted Jolyon came out gun’s blazing and raced through to take the first against Tim, normal order appeared to be restored in the second as the Dulwich captain eased to 7/2, however, Jolyon wasn’t done again putting in a run of points to take the lead. If the votes on the home gallery had been counted (they weren’t) it would have shown that at that point they would have expected their man to turn up the heat mount a comeback. But clearly he hadn’t taken notice of the Warner, and at t 2/5 and 5/7 it wasn’t looking too hot. Tim just edged and the fourth went the same way going all the way to extra-time before he could level things at 2-2. Eventually, Jolyon started to tire and Tim eased home but not before he had given the Dulwich man a real scare!

On the other court Jonny Powell’s sponsorship commitments at the Kent Open had clearly taken their toll, despite the power-nap on the Mote floor half-way through Saturday evening, and he found Will in fine form going down in 3. Paul battled hard against Steve but got little joy against the tough South African also going down in straight games.

The post-match Fish Blatter from Olley’s was as tasty as ever, afterwards the rubbish went in the Bin and after a weekend of Hamman Eggs Jonny can confirm Olleys do a mean salad as well! As always a fun eve with the T Wells boys, shame they don't live closer!

Ps. Ok, so we don’t really mind how we score or what we play to its squash either way, it’s just a shame for the Kent youngsters like Steve, Richie, James et al.
Enough said, roll on the summer fun lets hope its not as hot as Qatar!
