Report

Report:The local PL derby last night. PL 2 suffering from the loss of their star turn Charles at no.1 were always onto a tough one and so it proved with PL 1 lucky to have a flying visit from WB Culver just as it was looking like a tall order to get a team out.

First up Grant v Davies.
Trev stepping up to the plate again after last weeks Houdini act at BCC strove manfully to bag a couple of valuable points in this one. You always felt that Andy had the upper hand but couldn't quite convert it to game wins. An awkward match with a number of tangles of arms and legs, but sterling efforts on both sides. In the end Andy had a bit too much fitness and look the 5th fairly comfortably.

Next door, Culver v Young.
Didn't see an awful lot of this one, and in truth it doesn't look like there was a lot to see. WB crashed through his opponent in typical style, with Zeb barely registering on the scorecard. Probably more interested in getting to the kitchen to organise his young lady's birthday cake! A comfortable win for WB.

Next Lennox v Wilson.
Again, saw nothing of this, but Mark looks to have been in the car for a game before turning on the afterburners and accelerating away from Lee who seems to have his mind firmly on other things at present.

Next door, London snr v Grey.
Another of the evening's fairly routine matches. The author got into the driving seat pretty early on and Simon never seemed to hit his stride. 3-0 to the author.

Last up Robbins v Bennett.
Second only to WB for comprehensiveness of scoreline, JEJ never needed to change out of 2nd gear, with a days golf immediately prior to the match seeming to be the ideal preparation.

So a real early summer season match. No-one quite up to speed yet. PL1 face their usual nightmare next week as all the rats desert the sinking ship at the prospect of another kicking over at Dulwich (that's a challenge). Plenty of chewing the cud about players (mainly) past and present in the bar afterwards over a seasonal curry before heading for the hills.
