Report: | Usual shenanigans before this match for both captains with holidays, injuries and work commitments reducing the availability of players for selection.
First up Duane vs Simon, the general comments before the match was that it would be nice for Simon to get a decent game for a change. As the first game progressed it was very clear that although Duane was playing well, Simon was playing better and his movement around the court was fantastic, towards the end of the first though Simon started to stretch his leg slightly. In the second, Duane changed his game and slowed the pace down which seemed to work and he moved Simon around, it was apparent that Simon was struggling more and more with his leg and after losing the second he conceded the match.
Kieran vs Martin. Tough baptism for Kieran as he stepped in at the last minute, In a few years he would be up to speed but Martin was too strong for him and ran out a 3-0 winner.
Tom vs Steve, Tom is fast becoming the reverse JEJ of Bexley (leading then losing 3-2), after going 2-0 up Steve came back to take it 3-2, not without a scare (7-4 down in the 4th)and not without effort as he was left laying outside the court for 5 mins after the match.
Danny vs Clive, don’t think I’ve seen Clive smile so much in a match to be honest, sometimes I don’t think Danny knew where the ball was going so Clive was really struggling, Unfortunately for Danny this is a step up in class and after Clive got over his traditional slow start he took control with the occasional blip to take the match 3-0
Steeden vs Lennox, steady match from Steeden having too much in the tank for Lennox who is coming back from injury and holidays.
Ample food (which I shall be having for lunch for the rest of the week!), and much good natured banter about players, rules, regulations and the order of the Bexley team in the 2nd half. Duane and Tom are having a playoff Thursday night for the number 1 position (apparently all the other times that Tom has beaten Duane don't count, they were friendlies). We also managed to get the new boys to do the washing up so all is good in the world. Let’s hope Simon recovers in time for next week.
