Report

Report:A very depleted T.Wells visited PL last night. Still, the three players present were three more than provided PL2 with their maiden victory of the season last week, so let's look on the bright side. Memo to Jolyon - must get your team's holiday planning better organised!

First match Robbins v Payne.
Just to add to the atmosphere of the match, this one had to be played early to allow Colin to fulfil a business commitment in the evening, so your trusty scribe saw not a ball of the action. It seems as though it was a pretty competitive match from the scoreline, and another match under JEJ's belt to help him get back on track - and match to PL already.

To the main event of the evening - Culver v Evans.
Returning from another travelling session, PL's resident Wrecking Ball seemed (as usual) to be in no mood to mess about. He left the blocks at a furious pace and chopped James up in the first two games. At this point he seemed to feel he needed to do more in the way of volleying, though it was hard to see how this was possible. The tactic didn't work and James played very well to get himself back into the match with a convincing 3rd game win. After this though, normal service was resumed, and yet another victim of the Culver machine was spat unceremoniously out of the door.

Last but not least, London snr v Powell.
A bit of a clash of styles with Johnny crashing the ball round the court and the author not. An unusually good start from the latter saw him off the mark well, and things continued to progress pretty much along these lines until the start of the 3rd when Johnny took a big lead as the mistakes started to creep in. Not to be outdone however, the author steadied the ship and ran out a relatively comfortable winner to round off a good set of points for PL.

Sadly for those absentees, they missed what was probably the best meal that I can recall seeing at PL for a while. Good banter in the bar as always, with messrs Culver and Powell comparing "Hurt Club" notes, and regaling all with tales of derring do from foreign parts. Happy days ...
