Report: | An entertaining night of squash at Twells
First up was James vs Mark, good quality match with both players moving well, James nicked the first couple and was 7-3 up in the 3rd and looked to be cruising to a 3-0 victory, with a string of 6 points though Mark took the 3rd and James seemed to be tiring, after taking the 4th Mark was still moving well into the 5th, James slowed the pace in the last and with it negated Mark’s attacking play taking it 9-6. Good match and quite a long match as you would imagine.
Next door it was the battle of the old boys with Colin taking on Duane, the first half of each game was competitive but Duane had too much in the tank (“looking quite nippy” was the quote from Duane) for Colin who is starting his training now for the over 50’s world masters next year.
After that it was Paul vs Keith, a tough night for new boy Keith not quite used to the pace of div 1 players and Paul ran out a 3-0 victor.
Jolyon vs Tom, a nice slow methodical start from both players playing deft drops and lobs. What am I saying!, after a drop in the second rally from Jolyon they both proceeded to try and remove the plaster from the walls by hitting the ball at 1000mph, after a long first it was explained to Tom that even though he didn’t have his lucky girlie socks (see last weeks report) he should play his game, not Jolyon’s, after a more measured approach Tom eased out to a 3-0 victory taking the next two 9-4.
Jonny vs Matt, by his own admission Jonny is not at his fittest but the shots are still there and he pushed Matt around the court but Matt managed to weather the storm and take a comfortable victory in the end.
Usual banter after the match with some much appreciated Domino’s pizza (2 for 1 on Tuesday’s!) eaten mainly by Mark.
Interesting facts of the night.
James is now going to start “proper” training (bugger!)
Tom is on a two game winning streak!
Matt is still undefeated.
