Report

Report:And so, the final encounter of the season saw a weakened Bexley 2 pitch up at Langley Towers for the finale to yet another campaign. With the PL centenary celebrations in full flow, the club had thoughfully decided to round every drink price up to the nearest 50p so thankfully Bexley were only able to field 4 players. All in all a pretty good final match though.

First up London snr v Lewis
A good while since these two had met up on court. A very svelte Rob looked to be hitting the ball very sweetly in the knock up and despite the scoreline in the 1st it was a good game. As the 2nd got going though, the author started to lose the range a bit and Rob picked balls off sending him scurrying hither and thither. Just enough was done to take it to 2-0, but come the 3rd and the author's decline became rather more pronounced. Rob shot out to an 8-1 lead, but thankfully for yours truly the wheels were bolted back firmly on at this point and the author clawed back into it and sneaked a lucky 3rd to take the match. A good encounter.

Next door Robbins v Harrison.
The umpteenth match between these two. JEJ had played Surrey Cup earlier as yet again the Surrey boys had a clash denting PLs line up. It looked for 2.9 games as though this was a bridge too far, but in the end it was no great surprise to see JEJ fully justify his moniker as he scrabbled back into the game, squeaking through 9-7 in the 5th to record a good win. Duane must be heartily sick of the number of 3-2 losses to JEJ over the years, but he keeps coming back and giving it 100% every time. Impressive.

Next up Lennox v Ganz.
This was a classic for illustrating the massive difference in HiHo and PAR scoring (no way was it a classic in any other way)! Mark had a nightmare first two games. The ball seemed to be magnetically attracted to the very top of the tin line every time he boasted, and far too many drops were missed. By the end of a very protracted 1st we'd have been 11-6, 8-11, 2-4 with PAR. As it was the PAR equivalent lasted until a third of the way through the 3rd. Mark's game improved steadily from the middle of the 3rd and by the time the 4th was won to get it back to 2-2 he was playing pretty well. Not to be denied after a serious amount of effort though, a very mobile Ron battered Mark into submission with a strong run through from the middle of the 5th, fending off a late comeback to sneak it at the death. Mark was at pains to point out that this was his worst season in living memory, and Duane helped soothe his pain (NOT) by reminding him of his Kent O35 "Water Boy" tag!

So to the final match, Culver v Green.
WB proceeded to rip through this match in fairly short order as is his wont. Taking some much needed R & R from his newly busy schedule with the oiks from the Bexley education system, he turned in a typically no nonsense performance to blitz Matt 3-0. Didn't see much of it due to marking duties but back to business as usual.

A pretty reasonable season for both teams, finishing in the top-middle half of the division. Onwards and upwards to the winter ...
