Report: | MATCH RESULT - READ ON
With Spaghetti on the menu it turned out to be a Spaghetti Western on the squash courts tonight with the Dulwich 2nd team players dropping like flies.
1st on were the two captains Ian and Ravi and this match seemed to go on forever but that was probably due to numerous attempts by both players to bamboozal the newby to the 3rd team who had the unenvious task of marking the hardest of all the matches to mark. The match ebbed and flowed to and from both players with many interuptions and discussions about the meaning of the terms let and stroke. Ian almost had his shorts pulled down at one point but that did not result in a let despite a lengthy appeal. Ravi looked to be in control when taking the 3rd game to go 2-1 up but Ian came back strong to take the 4th and was leading 8-3 in the 5th when an attempted smash to the forehand corner caught Ravi IN his eye and that brought an end to proceedings as Ravi was forced to vacate the building in order to get checked out at hospital.
On the other court Matt and Sean kicked off with Matt trying to balance cooking in the kitchen whilst concentrating on a bit of a roasting on the squash court. This seemed to work well for Matt as except for the 1st game he had Sean by the nuts for most of the match. DULWICH 3 go 1-0 up.
Next up was late arriver Antonio against Stuart who needed to get off back to his studies for an exam asap. The first game was looking like Antonio's when he went 6-0 up but Stuart then took the next 7 points to make things interesting. Antonio held his nerve and won out 9-8 after Stuart chose to set to 9. The next game was again going Antonio's way as he raced to a 6-0 lead again and then Stuart's dreaded ankle injury surfaced once again so that was the 2nd match of the night that had been brought to an early conclusion. DULWICH 3 go 2-0 up.
The number 1's Dave and Steve started up on the other court and this match seemed to be another very close one although both players were making too many mistakes so still a bit rusty. The first two games were shared and the 3rd looked to be a crucial one for Steve who seemed to be tiring quickest. Steve won it 10-9 and it became clear just how much he needed that one as Dave promtly took the 4th 9-3 with a number of easy points. The 5th game seemed to be going Dave's way when he moved to a 6-2 lead but then a controvercial decision seemed to change the momentum of the match. Dave raced forward to shot he was clearly going to reach but tripped over Steve's out stretched leg. A stroke was plausible at this point but the ball seemed to be going near the side wall otherwise it would have been a stroke and not a let... Dave did not deal with this well and promptly lost the next 7 points and the match. DULWICH 2 bring the match result back to 1-2
The final match on was newby Alex against oldby Nick who did his usual in the first and was too accurate for the fitter Alex to cope with. Alex made a better fight of it in the 2nd game and looked likely to win it but Nick pulled it out of the bag when he needed to and went 2-0 up. Nick's efforts in the 2nd game had clearly had an adverse effect on his energy levels and Alex set about making hey in the 3rd and won it easily 9-2. At that stage it looked like a 5 setter was on the cards but Nick dug in and won out with the sort of accurate hard hitting that he is well known for - hard luck Alex. DULWICH 2 tie the match at 2-2.
Hopefully Ravi will be ok although he had a nasty brooze coming up when he left for the hospital. NOPE MATE, NOT GOOD. WHEN A FOREHAND VOLLEY SMASH MEETS EYEBALL FROM ONLY 6 FEET AWAY, EYEBALL TENDS TO COME OFF SECOND BEST. WELL AT LEAST I DONT HAVE TO WORK TODAY. |
