Report

Report:Contrary to old man Steedens comments about late finishes due to proper scoring. Here we had a match that started at 7.30 on the nose, had several long hard games and we were all done by 10.10. Just start on time, then everybodies happy !

First up

Adam Eyeball v Lee
Eyeball seems to have been adopted by the 3rds as he once more headed up the ugly bunch.
This was a very srappy affair with both players not really getting close to their usual high standards. Lee just kept the error count a little lower and ran out a 3/1 winner.

Warthog v Kath
Didn't see any of this one but they were on court for a mighty long time. Warthog retaining his good run of form sneaking the 5th which as it turned out was crucial for the final result.
Cath as usual put in a full shift while Warthog controlled the rallies but not always the points.
A good scrap by the sounds of things.

Debt Collector v Simon
DC got off to a solid start going 5/0 up before Simmon cranked into gear hitting some great low drives and picking up far to many of DC's drop shots. Simon reached 8/5 but DC extended the rallies and a few errors crept into Simons game which allowed DC to sneak the first. That was about the meat and drink of the affair with DC upping the pace and running out a 3/0 winner. Simon has promised to get fit for our next encounter but I think that's just plain stupid. Enjoy life Si, I think our games are fine as they are !

Grim Reaper v Matt
A welcome suprise visit from the Reaper after his epic far east trip. Back for one match only before heading off to Russia.
A very good match this one. Matt playing some of the best squash I've seen him play had Reaper covering a lot of court and generally bossing things.First 2 games went comfortably to Matt before Reaper did his usual blood and guts effort to find a way back into the match. Matt however re gained control in the 4th and was a deserved 3/1 winner. A good effort from Reaper though as he only got back 6am Tuesday morning and hadn't hit a ball for a month. This will be a very good return match to see.

Lock Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels v Paul
Locks informs me that business in the underworld has been sorted and squash is now on the agenda which is clearly showing in his results lately. Now this is good news for the ugly bunch but I assume there are a number of dodgy geezers in the london underworld who have been kneecapped/sharing their beds with horses heads or just plain propping up a few of Londons Thames bridges!
Paul got off to the better start but Locks wound him in to sneak a tight first 10/9. Locks at full throttle strolled through the second but Paul worked very hard to ground out the third.
Locks then made Paul an offer he couldn't refuse in the 4th and that was that.

So off to the bar at a sensible hour and off home before the sun came up.

P.S. It has occured to me lately what all the fuss is about late finishes. As far as I can remember, Priory has always been a Tuesday night and has always run pretty late. I remember the days when players of both sides never looked to get off home quickly, they played hard and the social was as important as the scrap on court. Wednesdays could look after themselves but Tuesday night was squash night, end of. Oh well, must be me in my old age !
