| Report: | Bexley 2 vs Bexley 1
10 players turned up to find out which team and also, which order they are playing in the usual prelude to the priory season. Unlike last year the teams are closer together in strength with the 1st’s having the slight advantage, hopefully the 2nd’s will stay up this year!
Both teams were without their regular no.1’s, Richie off training for the British juniors and Ben with a dislocated shoulder! Lucky for the 2nd’s they got in first and drafted in Gary.
Prior to the match there was much talk about what scoring was being used (including a call from BCC), unfortunately it was decided that we are still playing hiho.
Match starts 7:45 on time
Masters the younger vs May
Josh has been elevated up the order to get tougher games, it was a nervy start from Tom as Josh raced away, after saving about 12 game balls Tom finally succumbed and Josh took the first, Tom recovered to take the next 3 but this was by no means easy and there was relieved look on his face at the end.
Masters the even younger vs Gray
Another of the Masters clan has been elevated for tougher games, after taking the first two games comfortably it looked like an impressive start from Brad, in the third and fourth, Danny used his unorthodox style to gain the upper hand, it was even in the fifth up to 3 all but then Brad stretched away to take a very impressive first victory, we will all be in trouble if he learns to drop!
Christian vs Duane
Match of the night by all accounts, I only saw the fifth but after taking the first 10-8, Duane then took a rest in the next two games to return by saving match balls in the fourth and take the fifth 9-7 with a rolling overhead forehand nick at the front which used up every last bit of his energy (not even enough left to wobble that head).
Mark vs Matt G
A fast paced game with both players looking to get in front of the other, both players winning clusters of points as the game progressed, Mark took the first two games, had a rest in the third (mainly down to Matt hammering me!) but then came back strong in the fourth to take it.
This set up the final deciding game of the night
Gary vs Matt (match starts 10:15)
The first took about 20 mins with Gary taking it, small errors here and there were the difference in this match. Both players showed excellent levels of athleticism but after an hour it was Gary who took the match 3-1
A quick sprint from all left at the club to the kitchen for the food, an excellent chilli and salad (Still in the fridge, forgot that!).
Facts from the night
All matches went with rankings apart from one (sorry Matt).
Christian scored more points than Duane.
Matt scored more points than Mark.
Josh will have to play well to keep Mark below him in the team.
Brad is up against his brother for the season.
By the time I left the club, Tim had already put the Dulwich result up with a report.
Bexley 2nd team are top of the league!
