Report: | Happy New Year!
Christmas came late for Bexley in the form of Mr Baker taking the night off to celebrate his birthday, this all looked good until Christian injured himself out running (fool) so that effectively evened things out for the match.
With my team unlikely to pile on the pounds over Christmas with pies and beer (average age of tonight’s team 21!) and the majority of us playing tournaments over the festive period the first match of the new year should see us all on top form.
First up Mark vs Tom, Tom apologised Sunday for the arguing that would be heard on Tuesday night. After all the warnings Tom barely mustered a raised word (I think he was saving his energy) Mark (who has treated himself to some new bats) took the match at a canter but as usual, if Tom was fully fit the outcome could well be different.
Jack vs Sam, didn’t see much of this match but both have similar styles, with the home court advantage Jack took control and after a minor blip in the 3rd took the match with a good win 3-1, thanks for stepping up and happy birthday Jack.
Josh vs Malc, from what I saw this was a fast brutal match with both players looking sharp, in the end Josh was unhappy with his performance but he just nicked it 3-0. Josh and John are seeded to meet each other in the Kent closed later in the week. That should be a cracking game.
Richie vs John, from the outset it seemed like the younger faster Richie had this under control but a number of rolling boast nicks kept John in it, the word on the street is that John is back in training so the outcome in a few months could prove to be a lot closer. As it was, Richie took it 3-1 with both players contributing to an entertaining match.
Last up Brad vs Ben, Brad was in no mood to hang around and despatch Ben comfortably, at least his opponent waited until after the match to have a drink this week! The question is, if Brad beats Christian in the Kent closed will I have to put him at 2?!
Great chilli and football banter even from the uneducated Tom, Ben ate all the salad and we even managed to get Josh and Richie to do the washing up! (a night off for me and Brad)
Looking forward to the Kent closed this weekend, should be some tough matches with any number of 10 players in with a shout of winning.
