Report

Report:A few words about last night's visit to BCC by the PL 1st team which turned out to be a good competitive match.

First up Ryall v London jnr.
An unbelievable start by Lewy saw the ball repeatedly coming out of the nick along the floor in the 1st. No exaggeration, he must have hit half a dozen rollers to blitz straight off to 9-0. Steve got it back on track in the next two as Lewy, whilst still playing very well, didn't quite have the finish of the 1st. The 4th saw Lewy back in the ascendancy as Steve looked very out of sorts. A competitive 5th had Steve back to the pressure game of the 2nd and 3rd, running out the winner of a tough match. Very entertaining.

Next door, Stabler v Robbins.
This court looked significantly colder than t'other. Didn't see too much of this, but JEJ seemed to be struggling to hold onto his concentration. A big lead of 7-2 in the 4th and 2-1 up was lost, and it looked touch and go in the 5th as Sam went 5-2 up. In the end, Sam sat back on it a little and JEJ did enough to ease through for the win.

Next up, the usual blitzkrieg special: McMeckan v Culver.
The usual take no prisoners performance from WB saw him absolutely blitz James off the court. It really is relentless. James was starting to look pretty disheartened by the end of this one, and both players were heading off into the night fairly shortly after showering. Not a lot else to report on this one.

After mucho (unsuccessful) attempts to resolve the correct nomination order via Mr Moscrop for 4 & 5: Pyne v London snr.
Drafting in the reserves from Buckinghamshire - that shows real commitment from Adam "I haven't played squash in 10 years" Pyne. Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but if the word "much" was inserted, it would probably be true. Nevertheless, the competitive spirit has not waned in that time and this was a tough match whatever the scoreline says. The author pushed in quite a few short shorts to take the 1st, but Adam stepped it up in the 2nd to take an 8-3 lead. The author somehow clawed this back and the famous Pyne flat splits recovery shots were in evidence more than a few times as some incredible retrievals came back. A monster rally for the author to win the 2nd game saw both players blowing out of their a*ses, but the author recovered better to take the 3rd. A few strong disagreements were voiced by Adam at Sam's marking, but soon forgotten afterwards.

Finally, Horder v Thompson.
Having been on the wrong end of Martin's recent run of good form, the author was expecting great things here. However, it wasn't to be. Didn't really see any of it as I was on court, but Martin assures me he just didn't ever get started on the deader of the two courts that should've really been suited to those boasts. As it was the analysis from the PL supporters that Martin got (trickle) boasted off court. The biter bit really I suppose. By all accounts Matt displayed his usual impressive degree of court coverage and just had too much in the tank for Martin.

Plenty of the usual banter in the bar afterwards, where drunken taxi rides and Lewy's near arrest seemed to form the theme for the evening, with Palace on the telly across the bar, missing penalties like they were going out of fashion.

Matt & Adam played in the wrong order...
