Report: | STOP PRESS: For one thrilling instalment only, the following match report is provided by guest star (player and reporter DC.) Take it away Raymondo ...
WHAT A BALLS UP !!!
Team selection for PL1 has been a bloody nightmare for Hand Jive who loves to share his pain so he passed it on to DC. But no negative press here as the result was all good. Go to Div 2 PL3 fixture for a good DC moan (but not yet as that's next after this little ditto)
To cut a long story short, DC was elevated to the dizzy heights of Div 1 due to a couple of important no shows. Fortunantly Girl Steeden reported a late pull out from his young star at 1 so that pretty much squared things up.
Cool Hand Culver v Josh
At the start of the evening DC enquired to Josh how he thought he might get on against CHC on the graveyard court only to get the reply that he had already played and amassed 6 points. ooops !! Looking back over previous CHC results I would say that's not a bad effort. Fair play to Josh, he kept a smile on his face all night and took the the result in his stride. The plus side was he could get to the bar early and hit the Vodka Red Bulls.
JEJ V Christian
Didn't see a single shot of this one which was a shame as it was a classic match up of 2 opposite styles. JEJ didn't live up to his name this time doing the job in only 4 games.
Teacher Thompson v Ron
I had this one down as 50/50 who would win but to be honest, teacher came out of the traps flying and there was only going to be one winner.
The usual lethal boasts from Teacher were impressive as usual but what stood out for me was his movement and fitness. Ron is a bit of a warrior on the fitness and determination stakes where I thought Teacher may be lacking but not a bit of it. A very clinical job from Teacher.
Debt Collector v Brad
DC was not looking forward to playing the young buck from Bexley (and Maidstone team mate) I've seen enough of Brad lately to know he is coming on at a rate of knots and his results in Priory and Outer Kent support this view.
Things did not start well for DC in front of the critical top division gallery. DC thought he had better lay on the style in the knock up and promptly smashed his hand with his own racket. 3 blood blisters and a dirty great bruise later DC went back to his usual flapping at the ball.
Brad came out of the traps flying and went 6/0 up before DC blinked. Things slowly calmed down to the point where DC scraped things back to 8/8 only to then lose 10/8. The second was identical except DC reversed the score. Plenty of good advice was handed out by JEJ which DC took into the 3rd. At this point Brad seemed to lose concentration and maybe a little confidence and DC romped through the 3rd. Brad came out flying in the 4th hitting the ball very hard but losing accuracy and DC was able to pick the points off.
A good win for DC but I fear the last time I will get this result.
Hand Jive v 'Girl' Steeden
Always enjoyable to watch these 2 old sods play. Very similar styles but one of them is giving away 14 years (though for much of the match it didn't show)
As you would expect, lots of very long rallies which in the main Girl Steeden controlled due to his better length of shot. Hand Jive put a lot of effort into the first 2 games but to no avail.
Finally in the 3rd Hand Jive found a better length and was then able to attack with some top notch volly drops. With the score now at 2/1 Girl Steeden noticed the time and realised the 'pumpkin' hour was close at hand and got a move on finishing the fourth in pretty swift order after upping the tempo.
So a good night for PL1 and a little trot down memory lane for DC. Tell you what though, the squash was great but I missed the effin and blinding of div 2 and the beer and banter which 9 times out of 10 revolves around Birds (tweet, tweet) and ripping the *iss out of team mates !!
P.S. think I'll do the 3rd teams match report tomo, need to get myself into a dark grumpy mood for that !
Supplementary - I didn't even realise all the intrigue around the 3rd team ending up short handed until after the match was finished. Thanks lads for taking that one on the chin. I see your lead has now been whittled down to a mere 18 points! - CL |
