Report: | This match was rearranged due to Valentines Day and lot of the players under the thumb, author included.
But this did hamper Colin Payne’s plans, the words were ‘Oh shit, Does that mean I would have to go out with my wife on valentine’s night!’
First up was Sam & Jolyon.
This always was going to be a tough match and it was. Both players playing some hard tight drives. Sam went 5-0 up and looked in control, but then Jolyon started to wake up and made some vital winners to pull it back to win 9-6. The 2nd & 3rd games Sam dug in playing some high tempo lengths and tight drop shots to win 9-2, 9-3. The 4th was a big turn around for Jolyon with less mistakes and making Sam work even harder to win every point. Game to Jolyon 3-9. The 5th game was full on, with both players not giving. Up to this point there was some good long rallies, each one standing there ground and bashing into each other to get to the ball. Jolyon steamed ahead 7-5 and looked like it was game set match, but Sam dug in and battled back to win a very close 9-7.
On the other court was Lewis ‘KP’ & James.
Didn’t see any of this, but from what I heard that it was a tough first two games for Lewis to win both 9-7 and the 3rd won 9-5, good win for Lewis as the last couple of times these two met, James always had the upper hand.
Next up James & Colin.
James was pumped up after seeing the No.1 & No.2 lead the team to a 2-0 lead, but unfortunately James was probably to pumped up and couldn’t get into 1st gear. Colin was playing some good sharp shots were James just looked like he was chasing every ball and couldn’t control the rallies. It wasn’t till the last game James looked like there could have been a come back, but by this time it was just to late. 3-0 Colin.
While the author was marking James & Colin, you could tell that Matt was playing next door to Jonny. With the usual shouting from Matt ‘tourettes’ Horder.
From what was mentioned this was a battle and a half, with Matt going down 2-0 only to pull it back to 2-2.
Both players looked Donald ducked and in the end Jonny over powered tourettes and won 9-5 in the firth.
So all down to the No.5’s Tom & Paul.
This was a bit of an up and down match with Tom’s great winning shots followed by Tom’s non-stop tin’s.
From the look of both players they were both struggling with the fast Pace of the game. Paul was retrieving well and so was Tom. At one point Tom didn’t look like he could keep the ball above the tin after losing the 3rd going down 2-1. Then the 4th and 5th Paul struggled with Tom’s attacking low shots to give BCC their first win in a very long time.
