Report

Report:Despite still missing Steve at no.1 this week and with the Rodders boys at full strength, last night's encounter proved to be a great battle. Last week it was the wagging tail, this week the top end of the order played a blinder.

First up Culver v Brewer.
This was the match of the night. WB had turned John over in the first half, but since then John has been putting in some great results and looked to be in fine fettle coming into the match. WB meanwhile wasn't about to relax his normal ruthless demeanour and set about the task with relish. This match gave a whole new perspective on the word athleticism as both players covered an amazing amount of court. A lot of hard fought, long rallies with Simon just having the edge all the way through to 6-0 up in the 3rd. At this point John embarked on a fantastic comeback forcing WB to all corners and taking the game. WB redoubled (if that were possible) his efforts in the 4th and played an absolute blinder to pressurise John all the way and take the match.

Next door Pratt v Parker.
Only saw a little of this as I was marking next door, but WW looked like he was right up for this one, pressurising Malc from the start. Relentless attack is what it looked like and a lot less of the walkabout stuff. An impressive win to set the match off to a good start for PL.

Next up Thompson v Magor.
Didn't see any of this, but judging by the scoreline it was reasonably tight particularly in the 1st in which Martin held a 6-2 lead before being pegged back. Joe obviously had enough in the tank to exert control in all three games to take the match.

Next door London snr v Woods.
Least said about this one the better! A truly dire performance from the author, paying Tom back with interest for his similar performance in the author's first half win. Never at the races. Tom took it early all match and apart from nearly succumbing to boredom with a run of loose ones in the 3rd to give the author a sniff, but this was only ever going one way. Ugh!

And so, all on Robbins v Baker.
Neil looked strangely subdued in this one. JEJ played well to totally control the first two games. At this point your trusty scribe departed to shower expecting a 3-0, only to find the 4th in progress on his return. Neil by this time had picked up the tempo somewhat, but JEJ did enough as always to take the match and seal a good win for PL.

The 3rd team having once again swept all before them were strongly in evidence in the bleachers, offering their usual degree of support, having returned from exile at ODs.

Looking at the Dulwich result, this was one we definitely needed to win and it's all down to the last match. A good competitive end to the season, with Dulwich in full afterburner mode ...

The visiting team of highly trained athletes consumed copious quantities of soft drinks, with the only alcohol being consumed by the designated driver of the team "hearse" - Tom. Much merriment around the amount of arm twisting required to get him into chauffeur duties. A thoroughly good evening (self notwithstanding)!
