It would be remiss of me to leave this without a few words, so ... the appearance of 40% of the Dulwich team at the wrong Bromley shows they were keen to end their season on a high note whilst keeping tabs on their fellow title contenders, but eventually they twigged and relocated.
First on Patel.K v London snr.
A tough match this one. Some fairly long rallies all the way through, and with the heater switched on, things were pretty warm. The author did just about enough in every game to overcome Ket's Duracell bunny style of play, as he picked up just about everything.
Next door, Easton v Thompson.
The last time these two met in Priory, Nick was triumphant so this was good revenge for Martin. Didn't see any of it due to playing duties, but Nick was taking a merciless round of sledging from his teammates in the bar afterwards, who seemed to think his filching of a game was a cause for celebration based on other results.
Next up Jeal v Robbins.
With Steve missing another game through injury, a flu ridden JEJ took one on the chin for the team. JEJ was hitting the ball as sweetly as ever but he just couldn't get around the court quickly enough. Ted produced his usual array of trick shots and ridiculous gets, but seemed more concerned with (a) his "dead arm" and (b) arguing with Keith (marking). A bit of a tetchy affair. JEJ was straight off back to his sick bed after showering. A good level of team commitment there.
Next door, Patel.S v Culver.
Business as usual for WB. Didn't see too much of this one. What I did see involved Shil doing a shed load of running for precious little return. So, business as usual for Simon. A comprehensive victory as per normal, and the end to a season of devastatingly effective choppings. It would have been nice to swap 1 and 2 round for this match as Simon and Ted would have made a very interesting match up.
Finally, McManus v Pratt.
A comprehensive first two games were pouched by WW, but Gordon got it together well in the 3rd and was a bit unlucky not to sneak it. The drops were going in very tight and Steve was doing a lot of running. In the end a sharp rap on the knuckles for Gordon at the end of a full blooded hoik from Steve seemed to unsettle Gordon and WW sneaked the 3rd to wrap up a good win.
So, PL repaired to the bar expecting a bottle of celebratory bubbly on the BLTC tab, but no luck on that front. I think it'll be normal service resumed next winter as we lose Simon to scale higher peaks in another team (assuming somebody wants to come up from Div2, which is currently looking debatable). A good consistent season with a return to the summit after a very long time. |
