Report: | Quite a pendulous match this, swinging one way then the other. Armstrong vs Dogra was a competition between who had the best shots and over five sets after an hour on court Armstrong won. There were some orthodox rallies but smashes from all parts of the court cut just above the tin...and many into the tin were plenty, along with screwball shots, reverse angles and drop shots from the back corners. An ominous start to the evening, indicating many close encounters were to come.
Winning went on against Tanham, who has recently beaten Trvor Grant, no less. Winning took a 2-0 lead but then decided to try out the quality of the tin on court 3 as Tanham drew level. After the advice to hit the ball hard and straight was taken Nic romped home 3-2 and to the 2nds relief.
Whilst this was being fought, Chris Wilkes had his marathon with Dave Kettle. The first three games deciding the outcome of the fourth, with Chris losing 9/10 in both the 2nd and 3rd games. This could so easily have been a 3-0 win for Chris but instead turned into a 1-3 defeat.
That saw the number 1s on court. Jon proved to be a class above Antonio who was powering around the court in his usual manner. Jon took the game 3-1. At last parity had been achieved which left the deciding rubber with Stuart playing Duncan. This was expected to be much closer than the 3-0 win by Staurt. Duncan is an incredible competitor but Staurt played his best squash since his injury back in February. At last the 2nds had won a match. It has been a tough start to the season playing Park Langley 1 and 3 followed by our 3rds. |
