Report: | Right then, back from the poultry and pud season and looking at some of the extended gut regions it would seem the tightening of financial belts (hah) over Christmas did not extend to the Bromley/Langley region.
For the 2nd time this half we are once more banished to the back end of the moon to play this one. Very embarrassing and not particulary fair to our opponents. Freezing cold, low ceilings, filthy courts and when the heaters do work they barbeque everyone in the balcony while the players freeze their rocks off !
Right, that's off my chest until the next time. on with the squash.
Captan Carrot Top v Trev
Good game to kick of with. Both players started a little loose offering easy winners to each other. Probably still in goodwill to all men mode, but that soon wore off and Trev got stuck in. Carrot Top was moving well but Trev is a wiley old dog and took the points when it mattered at the end of the games to go 2 zip up. Now Carrot Tops not been in the greatest of health lately and his face at this point was redder than the hair on his bonce but he is made of sterner stuff these days and dug very deep to get things back to 2/2. That said, Trev played a very solid 5th to win 3/2. A very good match.
Sweaty Sock v Gottsy
Only saw one rally of this one where Sweaty played an overhead back hand crosscourt straight into the nick. If that was anything to go by then we English had better re consider our desire to get the jocks to bugger off on their own. Then again, maybe not, building up Hadrians wall will at least give the builders some work for a while to hold off the recesion ! But then the builders will probably be from Eastern Europe. Hmmm, I'm going nowhere here !
Debt Collector v Graham
Not a lot to say on this one, Graham not at the races after a long injury. At least I can wear the same gear for a tough one against James Cray tonight without troubling the washing machine.
Zimbabwean Worthog v Big Andy
Now this was a sight to behold, the competition really was on to discover who ate the biggest Turkey. I think they where working on the Anaconda theory of swollowing whole and storing for the lean months ahead. That said, I think the Warthog was most used to this form of feeding as he came out of the traps the more fluent and big A making a fair few errors.
The second was a different affair with Big A firing in the short ball which had the desired affect but as Big A said himself, he kept forgeting the reason why he was winning points. Warthog clawed things back and sneaked the 2nd and the 3rd was wrapped up in pretty short order.
Numbnuts v Laney
Ah, this one instantly whisked DC back to those heady, halcyon days of the Biggin Hillbillys. All 3 of us knew exactly what was coming next and I for one was not disappointed. A complete feast of hacking, shouting, bawling, barging, swearing, mishits, marker abuse, body checking and if you blinked you missed the odd good shot thrown in to confuse all ! Not one for the purist but for entertainment, FANTASTIC!!!!!
OH, and numbnuts won.
So a good haul for the ugly bunch and back to the other Park Langley to catch the last few games of London junior v Ted. It did make me smile, A large gallery of people watching a terrific game played how it should be played. A very generous round of aplause for both players at the end but I tell you what,if they wanted to see something unique to sit in the memory for ever and a day they should have popped round OD's to watch the crap which is Numbnuts v Laney !! |
