Report: | Probably fair to say the 3rd team took one on the chin for the greater good of the first team in the top division.
After much dialogue Starting last Thursday, the firsts were short of players. By Saturday they wern't, by Monday they were again and at 6.30 Tuesday night Warthog had to rush his wife to hospital leaving the 3rds with 3 fit players and an unhealthy Captain Carrot Top reluctantly stepping in at 4.
All a bit of a cock up but if your going to give up a shed load of points you might as well give it to your own club mates as was the case here.
Captain Carrot Top v Andy
In the usual manner recently, CCT was well in the first only missing out 9/10. But until his breathing issues are resolved the results for remaining games in any match are always going to be a struggle. That was made all the harder having to play Andy who is always going to be a hard nut to crack at 4 at the best of times. 3/0 to Andy.
Sweaty Sock v Dave
Only saw the last game but looking at the scoreline it would suggest Dave had a pretty firm grip on this one from the start. Not at all suprising really as Dave is a class act and would turn over most number ones in div 2 in my opinion.
Grim Reaper v Si
Reaper obviously forgot the script for a little while in the first by going 8/0 up rather than 8/0 down. However order was soon restored and Si promptly romped through to take the first 10/8.
Didn't see the remaining games (but I certainly heard them ! Gawd, the air was a bit blue from wher I was sitting) The scoreline would suggest Reaper got into his usual tricky game and got the job done 3/1.
Numbnuts v Zeb
This was a much anticipated match up after the first half encounter when Numbnuts was not in the best of health and Zeb staged a great comeback after going 2/0 down.
The way the first started it looked like Zeb was dominating proceedings from the off taking a big lead of 7/2 then 8/3. Numbnuts not one for giving games away battled hard and pulled back thing to 8/8 then 8/9 down before sneaking through 10/9. That seemed to knock the stuffing out of Zeb in the 2nd and Numbnuts played a pretty much perfect game to take it 9/0. Zeb re grouped and the 3rd was very tight with both players showing great defence on the retrieving stakes which prolonged the rallies.Numbnuts kept his composure and finally sneaked it 9/7.
A very good win for Numbnuts as Zeb is one of the top 3 players in this division in my humble opinion.
Little bit of an amusing ditto, I was marking the Hand Jive / Girl Steeden match on the court next door but was getting very engrossed on the match above. Several times Girl Steeden queried shots going out which DC confidently confirmed where in. The truth was I didn't see them !! Sorry Mark, couldn't bring myself to confess on the night (they were in! - CL).
So a first loss for the ugly bunch but under the circumstances I guess It could have been a lot worse. Besides, Warthogs issues rather put things in perspective. It's only a game of squash. |
