Report: | A great ending to a terrific season. This slightly fractious match had it all. Barging, swearing, marker abuse, ridicule and contempt. Only kidding. Great games by the top seeds and the Dulwich number 3 and TWSRC numbers 2 and 4. John Lawton the TWSRC no. 4 was possibly one of the outstanding players of the season. There used to be an award for this a few years ago. Maybe that should be revived.
Maybe TWSRC forgot that the clocks moved an hour forward over the weekend. By the time they arrived at 8.30 an hour later than the traditional starting time of 7.30pm two Blackheath guys who had turned up on the wrong day had played a match, compliments of Dulwich and the barman was getting worried about the projected finishing time.
TWSRC did well to win this match, a dead rubber for them. Shame that they could not finish higher up the table.
Well played to my lads over the course of the season - we finished a very credible third notwithstanding injury after injury - Martin Winnick (knee op), Jack Robinson (out for most of the second half), Chris Wilkes (back and knee), Olly Ruff (groin), Stuart Empson (knee) and myself (knee). Three of us had to play with injuries in our last league match just to get a team out. The alternative would have been to draft in three new players and then get the committee's consent for them to play - which as I understand it based on recent precedent would have been a racing certainty.
Anyway who said squash was bad for the knees? Finally, congratulations to Park Langley 3 for winning the league. |
