Report

Report:Keeley v Alan - Having spent the last week in the Betty Ford clinic, keeley had now sobered up enough so that at least she was seeing only one squash ball rather than two. On paper I thought this should be a comfortable win for Keeley but
in the early games Alan made Keeley work hard for every point and after the first two games it was one each. After some words of wisdom from
Nick "Chatty Man" Peel, Keeley ran out a comfortable 3-1 winner.

Dan v Nick - Dan was a late replacement as Steve Pusey withdrew due to a bug that was trying to escape from both of his bodies major orifices. Nick seems to have been comfort eating since I last saw him and this match looked like the reply of the battle of the bulge. Mistakes a plenty from both players in the first game saw the lead swap backwards and forwards with Dan just pinching it. Similar type of squash thereafter but with Nick making the fewer mistakes to win 3-1.

James v Peter - On only his second game back after another long absence, James' timing was a little wayward and Peter took the game 9/2. The next two were closer affairs with James pinching both to the annoyance of Alan who decided at the end of each of these games to test the strength of his racket against the floor and wall. Sometimes older is not wiser. The next game was also close but this time with Peter pinching it to make it two each. (No throwing of the racket this time). In the fifth the older legs were
fitter than the younger legs to give the match to Peter 3-2.

Nick v Mandy - Chatty Man was on usual form. Talking in between points and declining the offer of an easy drop shot to play the ball back to Mandy to keep the rally going. Chatty Man took the first two games but allowed Mandy to take the third as his tatic of playing each ball back came unstuck. In the fourth Chatty Man was a bit more focused and at 8-3 ahead went back to dollying mode. After letting Mandy back to 8-8, Chatty Man finally decided to put Mandy out of her misery to win the match 3-1.

Me v John - John has only just been recruited into the team after deciding to play social matches rather than playing Priory. (I thought Priory was supposed to be social!). John took the first game comfortably although there were some long hard rallies. I decided on a change of tactics in the second and levelled it at one each. The third was the decisive game. I seem to recall taking an early lead but eventually lost it after some hard rallies. At this point Chatty Man decided to offer me some perls of wisdom. He advised more boast as he'd spotted that John had something in his ear which would affect his abilty to turn! Chatty Man's advice may have worked for Keeley, but was the wrong advice for me although by now I was also starting to wilt after some long rallies. 3-1 to John and match to Nuffield health.

On hearing that I re-string rackets Peter handed me some rackets for re-stringing, but had to take one back as he spotted a crack in the frame. I wonder how that happened?
