Report: | Park Langley's 'U25s + Pete' found themselves in the strange situation whereby they were the only team to playing at home this week. Rumours were that we would still be on the OD courts!
So with the freedom of the courts, this match was all set for an early finish. First on court,
Pete v Guy
Having been thumped in our first outing at the beginning of the season, there was a fire burning in Pete's belly of supernova proportions to exact revenge, and it certainly showed as he rattled of 3 games in a fashion I've never seen before. Not much to say, other than well done Pete, more of the same please! 1-0 PL
Ryan vs Darren
Next door Ryan was returning to playing duties having decided to venture to Selhurst Park last week to watch the resurgent Palace. However, it would seem that he hasn't forgotten how to win on court. I saw very very little of this game, but I'm told it was a job well done, despite throwing away an 8/3 lead in each of the last 2 games
2-0 PL
Rich vs Richard
Strange one this, not least for the fact that it was being played simultaneously to 2 others at the same time! Having spent the best part of the day driving back from Cornwall, coming up against Richard's totally unorthodox was probably last on my list of things that I needed. Nevertheless, a renewed grit and determination from the PL captain to chase down everything and return it back with interest took prominence in mind and, having lost the first from 8/6 up, then went on to record a heavily needed victory and seal PL's win for the week.
3-0 PL
Chris vs Paul
Saw absolutely nothing of this game due to playing duties, but I can only assume that the fire Pete had been burning so vociferously inside had been transferred to Chris, as this game was over in the time it took me to play 2 games. Wham bam thank you ma'am, 4-0 PL
Paul vs. Stuart
Last up, Paul was taking on Stuart, who in his own words "would be pleased to take a game after he battered me before". With that in mind, he would've been ecstatic with what ensued. Some fantastic rallies, with dominance being thrown back and forth like a pendulum, these 2 geared up to have another thrilling match. However, since Christmas, Paul has learned how to drop the ball half a foot above the tin, as opposed to above the service line! What a difference it's made as he promptly controlled rally after rally and eventually wore down Stuart over the 3 games. Brilliant win for Paul and indeed PL
God grub in the bar afterwards and pleasant banter with the Nuffield boys as ever. Good luck for the season |
