Report: | We had one of our strongest teams out this week so I was anticipating a good result but didn’t imagine we would achieve a complete white wash.
Me v Stuart – Stuart wasn’t around when out team’s played in the first half of the season, so this would be the first time we have ever played. Although Stuart was first to arrive we couldn’t go on court as Stuart was waiting for a team mate to loan him a racket and trainers. Something that Stuart does regularly so I am told. We had some high quality long rallies with myself just managing to play the better percentage shots. Match ball was won on a stroke although I was expecting a let, but before the marker could make a decision Stuart decided himself that it was a stroke and turned to shake my hand to concede the match. What a nice guy.
Keeley v Mark – Mark was never a match for Keeley’s superior shots and crumbled in the third 0/9 as Keeley hit winner after winner.
James v Paul – Only saw the final game when they were at 2 games each. Both players looked knackered and took maximum advantage of the gaps in between rallies. Eventually James won the deciding game as Paul was doing his best goldfish impression as he gasped for oxygen.
Nick v Richard – Didn’t see any of this but Keeley tells me it was all one way traffic as Nick thumped Richard for 2 points within 10 minutes.
Steve v Greg – Again, didn’t see any of this but not surprised to see Steve win 3-0 given his rich vein of form at the moment. (Must be all that coaching he’s getting from Tony Hall).
In the bar it was eerily quiet, then I realized why - Nick “Chatty Man” Peel had gone home early. Ah bliss. |
