Report: | With the loss of Nick “Chatty Man” Peel to the second team, the team were under pressure to get a result to keep their promotion ambitions alive. Our prospects were helped by the absence of Waterfronts’s number 1, Simon, who went to watch Charlton, although some say his time at number 1 is short lived as his younger team mates are playing the better squash.
Keeley v Korin – Some good retrieving and tight shots from Keeley won her the first game. She went walkabout in the second but back to her best in the third and fourth to win a good competitive match 3-1.
Steve v Steve – Same name, similar shape, different class. BCC’s Steve won 3-0.
Dan v John – Dan’s successful comeback is still on track as he won 3-1. Didn’t see any of this but the game scores suggests the first two games were very tight. Before the comeback Dan would have gone on to lose this match, but the extra weight gain seems to have helped Dan. Keep on munching!
Me v Richard – I won the first two games fairly comfortably, but then Richard started getting his forearm smash going plus his miss hits. Another outrageous miss hit at game point saw Richard take the third game 9-7. Fourth was tight but Richard’s miss hits were now resulting in strokes to me. At match point to me the marker had no option but to award a stroke although Richard was adamant that the rules say you can’t award a stroke on match ball. Must have missed that one.
James v Paul – Now playing once a week instead of once every two weeks, I thought this would be a walk in the park for James. However, although he won 3-0 the elder statesman, Paul, made James work for his points. Maybe James would be better playing once a month!
So, 5-0 and 20 points seems like the team coped pretty well without Chatty Man although he didn’t fare so well in the second team where he lost 3-0 and only won about 3 points.
The lasagna turned out to be cottage pie, but was still good although not good for Steve P and his diabetes. Last night we discovered that Steve’s diabetes means that his blood doesn’t always reach all of his body’s extremities. Poor old Mrs P.
On the plus side I did manage to get Keeley to settle up her subs this week. |
