Report

Report:Poultwood are promotion rivals and so they came with a strong team.

Steve v Craig – Didn’t see any of this as I was playing, but Steve came back down to earth with a bump to end his winning streak of four matches. By all accounts Craig was always in control and was a comfortable 3-0 winner.

James v Stuart – Again, didn’t see any of this as I was still bloody playing my marathon match. I’d heard James’ arm was playing up again right from the warm up so I’d assumed he lost. He had in fact won the match which proves the old adage - no pain no gain.

Me v Ben – Even though I won the first game 9-0 I had a feeling this was going to be a long game and so it proved. Initially I relied on Tom making a mistake to win my points, but when he stopped making mistakes I was still in defensive mode allowing Ben to take the initiative. The second, third and fourth games all had long hard fought rallies so at 2 games each it was down to a fifth game decider with Ben looking the fresher. I decided to play a bit more on the offensive which paid dividends as I won 9-3 for the match. Great game to play in and well marked by Jake.

Keeley v Jake – I was still playing when Keeley arrived so wasn’t able to check her breath to see if she’d been drinking again. Jake was expecting to play Nick “Chatty Man” Peel so he thought he’d have a fairly easy match against Keeley although with a lot less chatter between points. He was right about less chatter but not about the match. Keeley wiped the floor with him to win 3-0.

Dan v Robin – After winning the first game by playing percentage shots I told Dan not to change anything in the second game. Guess what he did? That’s right, Dan went back to playing impossible drop shots and fancy boasts. Robin won the second game. Next time I’ll save my breath. Third game and Dan was back to basics and going for winning shots at the right time. 2-1 to Dan. Both players were beginning to feel the pace by this point, but Dan’s pace had stopped altogether for Robin to win 3-2.

Jake asked me to be kind to him in match report. I’ll let his squash speak for itself, but not sure about the ginger beard with the monk haircut. A bit gay.
