Report: | With promotion still a possibility and only two matches left, I was banking on us to get maximum points from the leagues whipping boys. However, with three team players unavailable we were down to the bare bones and had to draft in old boys, Paul and Graham, otherwise known as Pinky and Perky.
They say older is wiser but not in Pinky's case. Having travelled to Wildernesse and with no sign of any squash players, it finally dawn on Pinky that he may just have got the wrong venue. After confirming his error with a call to yours truly he then informed me that he might be late.
Keeley v Karl – Looking a lot more sober, Keeley made short work of Karl to win 3-0.
Perky v Ian – What a strange match. Perky took the first 9-3 with some exquisite drops, Ian won both the second and third 9-0 when Perky couldn’t hit a drop. Perky’s drops were back on form in the fourth to win 9-0. In the fifth Perky’s perk began to droop and he lost the match. 3-2 to Ian.
Me v Mike – Some fast and furious rallies but I felt I always had the upper hand as Mike tended to hit more unforced errors than me. I won 3-0 which was much more comfortable win for me than when we played at Widernesse, but then again I was never very good at ice skating.
Pinky v Gary – Didn’t see any of this but from the look of the match score, Pinky would have done better to stay at Widernesse. 3-0 to Gary.
Dan v Peter - So at 2 matches each it was down to the number three’s. On paper this was an easy win for Dan, but as Dan can’t read the papers nothing could be taken for granted. In the end Dan won 3-0 fairly comfortably.
Once again Keeley was missing something from her kit bag. This week’s missing item was shower gel. I think I’ll ask her five year old daughter if she will make up a check list of things her mum should remember.
Whilst eating dinner the conversation took a bizarre turn when Karl said his mum would spank Dan for not eating his vegetables. I wonder if she’s got Wayne Rooney’s number?
As subs were being collected it worked out that Pinky’s overall points score meant that it cost him £2 per point. Not good value on either side. |
