Report

Report:Early season opener for the two PL teams. The 2nds turned up mob handed whereas the 1sts could only scrape 4 players together in the absence of captain crocked and with the lower teams all unable to provide replacements.

First up Pratt v Medhurst.
Building on last week's impressive victory WW made fairly short work of this, with another good display of (shock horror) control. Coaching lessons with one Mr Harris seem to be paying dividends, and despite Luke making valiant attempts to compete with power and accuracy, WW had too much speed and fitness and wrapped up the match to get the 1st team on track.

Next door, Robbins v Young.
JEJ started off looking very out of sorts as Zeb powered through in comprehensive fashion to comfortably take the first. After getting the stiffness out of the system though, JEJ stepped it up by four or five gears and took the remaining games in short order.

So, looking good so far as Thompson v Peacock took the stage.
Martin got into his stride straight away in a characteristic fast start, and this time no taking the foot off the gas. Adam, to be fair never really got going, distributing a high error ratio into all parts of the tin, and making Martin's job that much easier. A comfortable win.

And so to the evening's main event - London jnr v Culver.
After his record breaking deadline beating summer transfer, WB was out of the blocks like a whippet to take the first five points. Steve gradually got into it and a combination of improved accuracy and length, and more pressure exerted saw him only fail to take the 1st with a couple of tame mistakes at the end. The upward trend continued for the rest of the match. Simon looking a bit more subdued, and possibly like he needs more court time and Steve playing pressure squash and chopping in winners every so often. The scoreline makes the last 3 games look comfortable, but in reality they were all hard fought, though I've never seen so many front court errors from the Culver racket.

So that was it then. A good win for the depleted firsts, while the seconds' no.5 and 6 battled it out in a friendly (their 7th and 8th presumably getting the night off for good behaviour). WW had an enjoyable night quaffing celebratory champagne in the bar (thankfully not on the tab) and captain crocked had a fun evening, not playing, marking two matches and paying the bill.
