Report: | At one point it looked liked being another late night finish and another poor result in a week full of disappointments as Park Langley IIs moved to the brink of an upset at fortress Giant Arches. However approaching the midnight hour, Jim managed to survive the Clinton onslaught to eventually edge Dulwich home 3-1 and set up a top-of-the-table clash with Bexley next week.
Earlier on Tim had worn the arm-band with pride, quelling a Culver comeback in the second and recovering from 1/8 to edge it 9/8, a real game if two halves, before easing home in straight games. Next door Will & Luke were going toe to toe for nearly 90 minutes before the latter closed out a win. They say form is temporary and class is permanent; it probably is but it also helps when you have shed some of your 16-stone peak weight!
There was never any doubt Dulwich would come up trumps at 5. It’s been quite a week for the Italians, so having Antonio Petronzio on your scorecard is as good as win. It nearly wasn’t as Simon worked hard to restore English pride, but as is oft the way it wasn’t to be. Andy & Zeb had a titanic battle that ebbed and flowed, with Zeb covering more of the park than Scotty Parker. Hanging in at times as Andy had him on the bit of string that Pirlo would have been proud of, Zeb dug deep and eventually ran out a victor in five.
Clinton and Jim played out a high quality encounter, with Clinton sneaking the first 10/9 and the crucial second also going into extra time. Neither player seemed to want it as the tension was palpable, both squandered game balls before Jim snuck it 9/8. This seemed to take the wind out of Clinton’s sails and Jim was over the moon to seal the decider in four.
Sadly the late night finish meant that the away team had to head for home armed with Olley’s finest fish & chips, but an enjoyable match against some of King Ken’s finest protégés, great to see them back in action.
