Report

Report:PL1 entertained Dulwich last night in a fixture that was especially noteworthy for a new record being set (for PL at least). All players were present and correct and the match underway by 7.40pm! Music to Tim's ears knowing how much he loves a late start.

Anyway, first up London jnr v Garner
This looked like it was going to be a close match judging by the 1st game. Very even throughout with Steve managing to deal well with Tim's usual brand of tight lengths and accurate lobbing. After narrowly losing it having held game ball though, the wheels rather came off. Lob serves were left to drop rather than being volleyed and Tim had too much time at the front of the court which he used to good effect. Steve went short too early as well as the patient approach evaporated. Things improved a bit in the 3rd though Steve looked rather dejected and in the end Tim ran out fairly comfortably to win it.

Next door, Robbins v Bristow.
The last time these two played JEJ made a marathon comeback to win after a nightmare evening stranded in Brixton, and it was clear that he was in no mood to repeat that sort of match. Although the 2nd and 3rd were tight scorelines, JEJ exerted enough control in each to take it and completed a good win against a tricky opponent.

Next up Rich v Barnes.
Diggy has got to be the strongest substitute no.5 anyone has ever seen and looks to have started playing a bit more these days judging by the way he was moving and hitting the ball, so Adam was right up against it from the off. I didn't see any of this due to playing duties, but the scoreline says it all. Too much control from the Barnes racket for Adam I'm afraid and a comfortable win.

Next door, London snr v Brownsdon.
A premature return to action for Captain Crocked in the absence of any other players to select from saw a tough encounter (well for me at least)! Despite playing pretty well, the quantity of effort required to get back into it at 1-1 proved to be a bridge too far. The fitness levels are going to require a few more weeks back in harness and Will didn't really have too much problem from the 3rd onwards, taking it at a relative canter as the author gasped towards the finishing tape (I know Tim likes a themed report).

Last on Pratt v Moore.
Only saw the end of this one. WW had been conned by JEJ into thinking the match result was all on him, and WW didn't think to look into the gallery and see his drenched and subdued looking captain giving the lie to that line. All good psychology really though, as Steve looked very fired up. Despite giving vent to some pretty strong expletives at his own mistakes (swear box being instituted WW - don't say you weren't warned!), WW wasn't about to let this one get away. Andy mixed in too many mistakes when in positions of control and let WW back into the 4th after he'd looked just about ready to do the usual sequence of win a game 9-0 then get hammered in the next. So a good win, but sadly not enough to change the match result.

The Dulwich boys sportingly kept the bar bill down by going on and playing doubles after match completion, and then arrived at the dinner table to find it was home from home with fish and chips PL style. A good match, but PL not quite able to reverse the first half drubbing. Gold medals for Dulwich, and valiant Silver for PL.
