Report: | The title challenge is still on track...... just!
With Ben returning from warmer parts it was almost a full strength Bexley to take on 3rd placed Parklangley still reeling from the first half defeat.
First up Josh vs James and Ben vs Steve
After the NQJEJ performance in their first encounter James was seen stretching and warming up for at least 10 mins before the start of this match. This didn't bode well for Josh as James was quick out of the blocks controlling the rallies with his usual array of deception and perfect lengths, to be honest, it was a bad day at the office for Josh but take nothing away from James who rolled back the years and totally dominated his younger opponent. 3-0 James.
Next door I think it was about 8-5 to Steve in the 1st with some fantastic squash on display from both players with a very appreciative gallery.
Next up was Mark vs Steve
After the match WW explained that “he tried hard to win that”, that would explain Mark chasing the ball around the court in the 1st and 2nd without much reward, after the “Clive like” slow start Mark got into the game at 5-0 down in the 2nd, it was then that the tide turned with WW hitting the tin with more frequency. 3-1 to Mark with Steve showing some consideration to his racket with a girlie throw at the end, no such luck for the glass door though!
Next door Ben took the 4th to make it 2-2……
Matt vs Captain Crock
After a period away with an injury, his first ever I believe. (if only my body was the same!) Clive was back on court, unfortunately, Matt was in no mood to extend the game longer than needed and looked to put pressure on from the start, in a few weeks’ time this result could well be different but Clive was never up to speed and Matt took it 3-0
Next door Ben and Steve were battling out their traditional 3-2, not quite to the normal script with Steve leading 1-0 then 2-1 but after 90 mins Steve took the match 3-2 to the appreciation of the crowd.
Last up Brad vs Adam
With the match at 2 all it was up to the number 5’s to decide the outcome, Super sub Adam put up a good fight in the first two games looking to emulate some of the WW cross court drops and reverse angle boasts but Brad was much too strong in the end winning 3-0 and giving us the match.
A full complement of players for curry (one of Clive’s preferred meals) which was nice and discussions about racketlon and the skills required in the other sports.
The title dream is still on track but another difficult match next week with team Master’s away on holiday (how inconsiderate!)
