Report

Report:The season finale last night as PL1 entertained Bexley 2 (possibly for the last time). What IS going on for the Winter season at the moment? Teams dropping out, gaps throughout the divisions. Who knows what we'll end up with.

Anyway, onto more mundane matters - the match. Bexley having had a drop-out at 6pm were short handed so Adam got the chief spectator role and for a change managed to avoid being roped into marking duties. A rare treat.

First up Pratt v Harrison.
A good entertaining match this one. Steve off at full bore and blitzing through the 1st game as Duane got up to speed. In the second, despite the advice of the coaching staff to avoid the usual d*cking around that follows this sort of game - yes you guessed it ... Still, after that it became a great contest. A 7-1 deficit was clawed back by Duane in the 3rd and from then on he had enough control and consistency to weather the cyclone swirling around him. WW ran his legs off, but a few too many shot selection errors let him down. One of these days all components will be pointed in the right direction at once and at that point - watch out, whoever the opponent is.

Out on the graveyard court, Thompson v Ganz.
Didn't see a ball of this due to marking duties, but Martin seems to have made relatively short work of this one despite a spirited comeback from 8-3 down in the 3rd by Ron, ultimately proving not quite sufficient.

Next up London snr v Badger.
Despite both being a bit rusty from layoffs, this wasn't a bad match. Matt got started the quicker with the author getting it back to level after the 2nd. The 3rd was very even up to 6-6. From this point onwards (and through the 4th) Matt produced a flurry of what we shall charitably refer to as "unconventional nicks". Having clawed back to 9-8 after the first two of these, the game winning shot came back along the floor off the back wall. Matt did enough to control the 4th and take the match. Enjoyable if a bit frustrating.

Last on Robbins v May on the graveyard court.
Again, saw nothing of this due to playing. JEJ apparently struggled to overcome a few ailments (limbs seized up) and had a real battle on his hands. Despite some up and down games he seems to have done his usual and squeezed through to take his and the overall match result PL's way.

And so another season ends. The PL1 team appear to have finished off a reasonably good season's work. Sadly we were unable to field the full strength team on a single occasion, but hey, this is summer. Let's hope the shenanigans referred to above get resolved before the Winter season kicks off.

Usual friendly banter in the bar afterwards. Always a pleasure to play the Bexley boys ...
